My dad has had very bad teeth, pain in the gums and is scared of the dentist

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
Hi Rob, I am in need of some advise. My dad has had very bad teeth since he hit his tooth and failed to get it looked at. Years have gone by and still he has very bad teeth, he hasn’t a fully grown tooth in his mouth most of them have either fallen out or have broken in half. He also has pain in his gums. The reason he hasn’t been to the dentist is because he has a fear of them and is very nervous about going. I am after your advise on weather he is able to be put under whist they work on his teeth? and also is it likely to cost a lot of money? Is he able to get it done on the NHS? Thank you very much for your time.

My 82 year old mother with parkinsons had work done on her teeth – fillings etc and when she drove home afterwards she was involved in an accident. Could this at all be related to the dentistry procedures. Thank you regards

i had a swolen face and blurrred vision after my gums were numbed

Friday, September 26th, 2008
Q.
I had to have two fillings in the hand side of my jaw. After having the injections to numb the area, my vision was distorted (seeing double). My face looked as if i had a stroke, and was considerably swollen. I have never experienced this before, is this normal reaction to having gums numbed for fillings. Afterwards i could not see properly for about 2.5 hrs.

A small side tooth has broke

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008
Q.
A small side tooth has broke (the back half)after a root canal filling. My previous dentist said that she could crown it for me but I didn’t want her to crown it because I wasn’t happy with my last crown. She filled it for me. Two years on, the filling has falling out and my new dentist said that I can’t have a crown as there is not much tooth left at the back. She has tried to fill it but it kepts falling out. She says that she doesn’t think my tooth will last long. I have looked up what I could do and the only thing is an implant but they are so expensive and they don’t do them on the NHS. Is there any alternative place I could go. Maybe trainees in a hospital. I live in London. I don’t have very good teeth because when I was 17 years old, I went into hospital for an op and the drugs they gave me rotten lots of my teeth, epecially all my top front teeth. Which have cause me pain ever since. Thanks for your help.

can you help me komal with my daughters teeth

Sunday, September 14th, 2008
Q.
Hello Komal, not too sure whether you will be able to help me or not; but here goes. My daughter has just turned 4. We have had a problem since here teeth first appeared. Mainly the 4 front top and 4 bottom. At first the dentists thought it was flourosis, so we treated her accordingly, however after extensive hospital tests it proved nothing of the sort. As we were advised to avoid flouride, we now realised she needed it more than ever. Her teeth on the face and cutting edges started to crumble. We were referred to the Orthodontics hospital in Bristol where she had white painted material intially applied, and then over later months almost like a white filling applied to the directly affected areas. The problem is that these filings fall off after a week or so and then her teeth become too painful for her to eat. We have been told that they can keep reapplying these surface fillings, however we were wondering whether there is a more permanent alternative? The last resort is to have the teeth removed with GA but the hospital do not think these teeth are bad enough to merit this. Due to the constant irritation and pain my daughter is in, is there a cosmetic solution that we can apply to these milk teeth? veneers? I can send you some images of the affected teeth if you believe this would help in your appraisal. Many Thanks in advance.
