Do You Know How I Can Get Braces On A Low Income?

January 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. I hope you can help. I was once referred to an orthodontist by my dentist for braces. I was told I would have the train tracks on both top and bottom, to straighten out my bottom overcrowded teeth. This was when I was under 18, stupidly I refused the treatment as I had bad confidence issues anyway and did not want my school friends to make fun of me. I’m now 29 and unemployed on benefits. I have enquired about private treatment but find it very expensive. Have you any advice on this matter? Thank you.

I’ve Been Scared Of Visiting A Dentist Since I Last Had Dental Surgery. What Can Be Done To Calm Me Down?

January 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes, after a really scary experience I had with a dental surgery in my Twenties, I’ve had really bad teeth and have had a gap in the front offset to my left for some years, which I have never had it looked at or replaced. After reading a lot about bridge options I’m now too scared to see a dentist because of there condition, can you give me any advice and if there are now procedures in place for nervous customers. Thank you.

Despite My Good Oral Health Regime, I Still Suffer From The Problem Of Bad Breath, Is There Anything I Can Do?

January 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew, I’ve been suffering with bad breath for a long time now and I see the dentist every 4 months. They are happy of my cleaning, and the dentist suggested to me to carry with this cleaning method. I brush twice a day and clean my tongue by using an inter-dental brush.  I gargle with mouthwash but I still have this bad breath problem. Even with my dentist scaling my teeth every 4 months time and when I do that I feel little better but it is no solution. Please help me to sort out this problem. Thank you. I look forward to your advice.

My Wisdom Teeth Are Forcing My Teeth Out Of Shape. Should I Have Them Removed?

January 22nd, 2014
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes, I’m 19 years old, and I’ve had braces when I was 11 years old up until I was about 13. Now my wisdom teeth are coming through and my teeth are being forced together and slightly starting to form out of line and shape, which is making me rather paranoid, I’d love to get a brace or something that can re-line my teeth again but am unsure about how I go about this? Also do you advise waiting for the wisdom teeth to come through fully or seek to get them removed, as you can imagine I’m in a load of pain and can’t cope much longer!

Kind Regards.

I Have A Small Hole In The Gap Between My Teeth. My Dentist Missed It And It’s Starting To Bother Me. Should I Have Told Him?

January 22nd, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. I have a small hole located next to my front teeth, in the small gap between the two. It is very minute and when I went for a check up the dentist didn’t notice it at all so I didn’t bring it up, should I have mentioned that this bothers me? I feel I may need a small filling but how large does the hole have to be for this to happen?  Obviously I’d need a white filling with it being at the front of my mouth, any advice would be great. Thank you.

I Would Like An Alternative Way To Straighten The Look Of My Teeth. Is There Anything Other Than Braces Which Will Do This?

January 22nd, 2014
Q.

Hello, I am in need of my teeth straightening and whitening.
But I would not like to have braces, because of my work.
I have gaps, crooked and uneven teeth.
I don’t know what I can do about this, I am very nervous person, and you will never see me smile. I have always wanted a smile I could be happy and feel comfortable about.
I also need an option which isn’t going to break the bank for me. Is there anything I can do? Thank you for your time.

Can You Tell Me If I Can Get My Crown Down Under General Anaesthetic? Sedation Doesn’t Work For Me.

January 22nd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. Can you please advise me whether I would be able to have a general anaesthetic to have a crown done? I am extremely nervous and cannot bring myself to have it done even under sedation as this has not worked for me in the past. It is a tooth at the front that has broken before and my dentist has suggested a crown to fix it permanently. I really am very nervous and was even in tears yesterday just at the though of going to my dentist for her to have a look at it. I know this will probably be very expensive but it is the only way I feel that I can go through with it.

My Wisdom Tooth Hurts Really Bad But I’m Not Sure I Should Take A Painkiller As It May Cause Addiction. What Should I Do?

January 21st, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr. Mark,

I am having some problems with my lower right wisdom tooth. It hurts really bad, but I also don’t want it to be extracted as I am working at the moment and I cannot take some days off – I am sure I will have to stay at home at least one week after the operation – so I bought a pain killer: Ibuprofen and Codeine (200mg / 12.8 mg tablets). In the description it says that I cannot take it more than 3 days (2 at a time and three times a day) as it might cause addiction. Should I still use it? I would appreciate your help. Regards.

Can You Tell Me If A Maryland Bridge Is An Effective Way To Cover A Gap In My Smile?

January 21st, 2014
Q.

Hi, I am a 37 year old male with advance stage periodontal disease and my gums have receded. My front lower jaw tooth has been removed, causing a gap. The neighbouring front teeth are weak and also have receded gums. My dentist has given me a removable brace which I find to be very uncomfortable. Is this pain normal when it comes to braces? Can you tell me if Maryland bridge is an option and I if it can cover my front tooth gap in effective way? Are there any other options? Thank you and I looking forward to hear from you.

Hi Mark, I’d Like To Know If I Could Have Lumineers On Only The Teeth That Show?

January 21st, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark, I wonder if you could give me some advice. I am currently thinking about having Lumineers on my top teeth as I feel they are too small, they are also chipped and yellow, plus, I have ground my two front teeth down a little. Could I have 8 done as the rest do not show? Also I feel my top palette is too narrow (I had my fangs removed as a teenager as my dentist said their wasn’t enough room in my mouth), would Lumineers go anyway to correct this? Thank you for your response in advance.
