Does filling fall out if its not capped?

Q. I have had many fillings in my front teeth (6-11). Some of them came loose after a couple months. My dentist said that he would like to cap these teeth. He said that my fillings will just keep falling out. Is this true? I have become very depressed about my teeth. I want to keep my teeth for as long as possible. I am only 30. What are my options?

A. If teeth are properly bonded the filllings should not keep falling out – unless there is very little tooth structure left

I have a similar problem – I’ve had a large filling fall out 3 times in the last year )even the temporary filling, that I’ve used previously does not seem to bonding.)…I got the filling replaced (On a bottom molar – right at the back) last Friday at 11.30am, and was very careful when eating afterwards…by 6pm it was gone.

I’m due to see my dentist again on the 5th of January (the earliest appointment I could get as I’m not in pain).

I had to have a root canal filling on a side tooth within my smile range six months on and the filling has come out so now I only have a tiny piece of tooth at the top on the front the rest of the tooth and filling has gone I was told by my dentist that I would need the root of the tooth removed and I would have to love with a gap for 6 moths for the gum to heal before I could have a bridge the gap has made me very selfconscious do I really need to have this gap for that long ?
