I Suffer Badly From Toothache. My Dentist Thinks It’s Tooth Sensitivity. Should I Get A Second Opinion?

Tuesday, October 21st, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I went to dentist today due to suffering badly from toothache! I was told I grind my teeth in my sleep as my front teeth are very worn! He X-rayed and sent me away with sensitive toothpaste as he is sure it’s sensitivity! However tonight I am in complete agony is this normally for sensitive teeth? I have taken painkillers but they haven’t helped! I don’t know whether a second opinion might be useful although I have never had any concerns about my dentist before. Thank you for your time.

I Have Pain At The Back Of My Mouth and My Cheek Is Swollen. What Could This Be?

Wednesday, October 1st, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes, Could you help me? I have pain on the left hand side at the back and my teeth ache all the time and hurts to open my mouth wide and to eat. At the back, where the pain is, it looks white as if there is a tooth about to emerge. When closing my mouth it feels like there is something hard in the way. Also my cheek is slightly swollen. I can feel the pain going up to my ear. What could this be? I need something that can take the pain away. Thank you.

I Have A Few Pointy Teeth. Can They Be Filed Down To Be Level? Would This Make My Teeth Sensitive?

Friday, August 15th, 2014
Q.

Hey Dr Hughes, I have a tooth that sticks out so whenever I smile you can see it creeping out. It’s so annoying. It’s on the top left hand side and slightly come out over my middle tooth. Can anything be done about this? Could it be filled down or something? Also I have a few of pointy teeth on the top and bottom can they also be filed down to be levelled? Would getting anything of this sort make my teeth sensitive? I once had my teeth whitened and my teeth really hurt so much, like a shocking pain for 2 weeks. Also how much would this cost me?

Thank you for your time. I hope to hear from you soon. Regards.

After My Tooth Was Extracted I Suffered From Severe Pain Like Lightning Bolts. What Do You Think This Is?

Friday, August 8th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Patel. I had a hole in my tooth and one day I got severe pain like lighting bolts. It came back 3 times. This pain is the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life. I have had the tooth removed but I am scared it could be trigeminal neuralgia. The pain was so bad that I cried. I asked the dentist about this pain but I am not convinced they really understood the amount of pain I had suffered. I have not eaten anything really substantial for 3 weeks now and I am losing weight. I cant go anywhere on my own for fear of this pain. I had my tooth taken out and have not had it since. I am still not convinced it has gone though because it only happened 3 times in 4 weeks. What do you think this is? Thank you for helping in advance.

I Am Scared Of The Dentist And I Don’t Want People Judging Me. Is It Possible To Get Knocked Out Throughout The Treatment?

Wednesday, July 30th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. I have really bad toothache, but I am scared of dentist from when I was little through a bad experience. I have been to ashamed to go as I have several chipped teeth and now they look really bad. I don’t want people judging me. I have left it them to go rotten but I must have some of the the roots left in my gums. I am very wary of a male dentist going near me as well, I just want nice teeth. If I could be knocked out and wake up with nice teeth that would be my ideal dream. Is this possible? Any advice would help me greatly. Thank you.

I Have A Grinding Problem With My Molar. My Dentist Has Advised My To Have It Extracted But I Would Like To Know A Different Solution?

Friday, July 25th, 2014
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes, I am 47 years old now. I have a chewing or grinding problem with my right 3rd molar. I have pain and sensitivity but no swelling or redness. My dentist advised me to go for extraction as there is grade 2 mobility. Do I really need to have extraction when there is no swelling. Kindly guide me? I am not diabetic or hypertensive.I got flap surgery done 5 years back and till now I have maintained them with proper care. For 6 months now this 3rd molar is not co-operating and it hurts to bite food. Do you know of any other treatment which could help me?

I Have A Hole In My Tooth And My Gums Hurt. My Dentist Is Fully Booked, Should I See My GP?

Wednesday, May 28th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I have a question for you. I have a very painful tooth and gum, which is currently preventing me from eating properly. I can’t get an appointment with my dentist at the moment. He suggested that I take Ibuprofen but it is not making any difference. What else can I try/use? I do have a hole in the tooth which has been there for a very long time. I don’t think I can wait for 2 weeks to see my dentist, do you think I should see my GP?
Thank you for your reply in advance.

I Had Two Out Of Three Wisdom Teeth Removed. Now The Remaining One Is Starting To Throb. What Should I Do?

Tuesday, April 29th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. Around 2 years ago I had 2 (out of 3) wisdom teeth removed surgically. The other remaining tooth was not pulled due to the nerve running through the root and on the surgeons recommendation it not be removed. 2 weeks ago I began to feel some pressure at the back of my mouth and irritation and throbbing, I visited my normal dentist who cleaned the area and suggested it would be okay with good management, two weeks on it has flared up again and is not so much painful but uncomfortable, like there is food stuck and pressure in the rear of my mouth. Do you have any suggestions to treatment?

I Get Pain And Fever Ever Since I Had Root Canal Treatment. Is There Any Reason For This?

Tuesday, April 15th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I have a question I hope you can help me with. I had a root canal on one of my upper molars almost three years ago and I had a metal crown fitted. Now, I keep getting a severe cold, fever or a bad neck. I also get severe pain in that particular tooth for around one week and then the pain goes away by itself. I have been to the dentist for normal check-ups, they have X-rayed it, but they can not see anything wrong. Is there any reason for the pain in that particular tooth and do you know of any solution or remedy? Please help me! Thank you.
