Can I get dentures or bridges on the NHS for missing adult teeth?

Friday, February 12th, 2010
Q.
Dear Mr Tennet, I am a 20 year old female with a genetic trait which has left me with four milk teeth for which there are no adult replacements. All are matching molars- two in each jaw and at opposite sides. I have lost one already and am due to lost two more as my gums have receded too far. My sister is the same, however she lost hers when she was young and so the other teeth drifted to fill in most of the gap. I have a very wide smile and so my gaps will be easily visible; I am applying for jobs at the moment and personal presentation is massively important for me, and besides the confidence issue I am worried that I will have trouble chewing. Would I be eligible for bridges on the NHS? Or even dentures? Anything at all would be a huge help. Many thanks for considering my question! Becky Archer,

I am scared of dentist but need dentures – can you advise?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010
Q.
I have recently been in touch with the Gentle Dental Office in Germany and had an initial consultation. I have been advised to have all of my top teeth removed and replaced with dentures and the majority of the bottom removed, leaving some to “anchor” the bottom dentures. I have been told that the “vertical” needs to be significantly increased as there is not enough space. Please could you explain what this means and how this can be achieved. Will I have to pay for this privately or can it be done on the NHS. I have not visited a dentist in 29 years because I suffer from dental phobia. I now want to contact a dentist in the Midlands area for a second opinion, but haven’t quite plucked up the courage. I need to get my problems sorted now and it is making my lie a misery. Please can you help? Thank you,

What is the best option to replace soon to be missing tooth?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr. Patel, My question is about the # 2 molar that has a crown and recently abcessed. I have been told that the infected tooth can not have root caan therapy and cannot be saved. I am a 61 year old female and I have worked very hard after not having dental when growing up to keep my natural teeth. The last tooth has a large filling and the tooth on the other side is crowned. I am disabled with limited funds. What is the best solution for the soon to be missing tooth and should I look for a surgeon to remove this tooth? Thank you,

Unhappy about denture and am looking for info about metal plates?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010
Q.
Dear Sirs, I was wondering wether or not you could help me, you see im at my wits end, when i was about 22 years old i started with terrible dental problems, abcesses mouth ulcers, etc, and over the years got worse in a result of me eventually having full dentures, none of my family know i have dentures as i never take them out apert to clean them, the dentures i have at the moment are old and worn so i went to the dentist for new ones,i cant wear them the teeth dont close together, i cant chew or bite anything and i look like a horse they are huge, my dentist said i need to get used to them(i know that) but they are completely wrong, what i wanted to know was if there was any way i could have metal plates put into both my upper and lower jaw and have teeth inserted into them and if so what would roughly be the cost, thankyou for your time,

Are dentures best option for painful and decaying teeth?

Monday, February 8th, 2010
Q.
I have a real serious problem. I went to a dentist because my teeth were just breaking apart piece by piece. They ended up pulling all my top teeth and gave me a denture. They said they could save my bottom teeth with root canals and fillings. Well after thousands of dollars almost everyone tooth on the bottom has now broken off and I am in serious pain. My grandfather, mother and sister all have had this happen to them too. Sometimes I can just run my tongue over my teeth and my teeth come off in like a gooey substance. There is not much left and I stay in pain. My dentist really screwed me. Can you tell me what is wrong with my teeth? I am sure I need dentures now on the bottom but after all that I paid and still paying I can’t afford to do anything else. In pain in Washington State,
