My husband has tried dentures but has a fear of gagging. Is there any way he can get implants for missing teeth?

Monday, October 11th, 2010
Q.
My partner has been without teeth at all for the past 10 years, he has tried using dentures but has a phobia of gagging and cannot stand the stress of the appointments. He has social anxiety disorder and agrophobia brought on by his low self esteem due to having no teeth. He is 36 years old would he be eligible for treatment on the NHS. I have checked the schooling websites and they do not offer implants. He feels that implants would be the only way to get teeth and be able to get his life back on track. Thanks.,

Friday, October 8th, 2010
Q.
Hi, i hate my teeth, make me loose confidence in me, i try not even to smile. Depressing -_-. When i was young i didnt take care of them much, im now 18 and had some fillings filled in, still got some more to go. what really bothers me is i have my front teeth not in a line, and also i have the ”fang-ish” really screwed, its a bit out and up. isnt there a way to fix them right away, i cant have braces! Cant I have my ”fang” and the one next to it removed and have an implant? Sorry if i talk to much! But id be so happy if you could answer. thanks!!,

My dentist has said implants are not possible due to bone loss and has recommended a 4-tooth-bridge. Sound reasonable?

Friday, October 8th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr. Caplan I wondered whether you could advise please. My front right tooth has suffered a lot of trauma over the years due to accidents. I am 34-years old. I have had it capped and I think I have had route canal treatment on it in the past also. However, I understand that it is now dead, my gums have receded a little to reveal the dark brown colour of the tooth underneath. The tooth has become very wobbly (enhanced by wearing for a while an anti snoring guard-which I regret buying!). Anyway my dentist has confirmed that the tooth now needs to be removed. We discussed the options of either an implant or a bridge. He has advised on a 4 tooth bridge and I wondered whether you could advise as to whether this is correct, as it seems to go against the grain compared with what other dentists are saying on the internet. He took some x-rays of the tooth and showed me that the the tooth’s bone is significantly worn down and fractured. He stated that if I went down the implant road then a bone graft would be required. He quoted a price of about £3,000 if I opted for implants. He also stated that he would have to refer me to another dentist to be the implant work. He suggested a bridge was the better option for cosmetic reasons. He cited a 4 tooth bridge would give a better alignment than simply fitting an implant (he may not have said this word to word– i’m afraid that have forgotten a lot of what he said). I think another reason is that he knew funds were a problem and a bridge would be cheaper. He has quoted £1,500 for a 4 tooth bridge. Your advise would be appreciated. Many thanks.,

My implant was moving so I got my dentist to fix it. Now it’s moving again and I don’t trust him. What are my options?

Thursday, October 7th, 2010
Q.
I have had two implants in my lower jaw which were orginally done two years ago. one of the implants started moving. I returned to the dentist that did the work he removed the tooth and tightened the post inside the implant saying that he hadnt fitted it correctly, its been two maybe three months and the same implant has started moving. what should i do and where do i stand on getting my money back as i dont trust him to redo the work for a third time. Also can i report him to some one as this has been emoitional hell for me, and i wouldnt want other people to have to go through this. Your help would be most appricated.,

I really don’t want to get a denture when fractured front tooth is removed. Can I get a bridge at a later date?

Thursday, October 7th, 2010
Q.
My upper one left central requires a crown. after an X ray it looks as if there is a fracture in the lower part of tooth, it would appear after having canal treatment on this tooth that it would not be possible to have posts put in as it is to soft for posts to hold. I may have to go to hospital to have this removed. as this is one of my front teeth what in your opinion be the best treatment as I really don’t want to have a denture, and can not afford a transplant. would it be possible to have it extracted and later when it was healed up have some kind of a bridge. I hope you can help because I am really lost as what to have done.,
