I am having a dilemma, whether to get implants or find a cheaper less drastic solution?

Monday, January 31st, 2011
Q.

I am about to embark on some
expensive orthodentistry but havnt
decided what or who yet.

My problem is this.

I have a full row of top teeth – crowned
bridged – and the odd one of my own.
They have served me well but now
i a 61 the gums have receded &
and the stumps inside the crowns
r rotted giving an ugly black margin
between gum and tooth on about
6 of the teeth.

Bottom row – many removed teeth
hidden by a prosthesis denture
which shows silver”’ claw’ when i
smile widely. Bottom solution i
believe is dental implants. BUT
question like answering now is:
Is there anything less drastic n
expensive than implants to hide
decay in the gap on top row?

How long will it take for crowns to break once they’ve started to crack?

Monday, January 31st, 2011
Q.

I have 2 crowns on my 2 front teeth that have started to crack. They are about 20 years old and I need them replaced. How do I go about finding a good dentist to do that since I have just moved to the North Carolina area.

Also, if they are cracked, how long until they may break? Finances are tight as we just moved.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I have a gap in my front teeth, I am reluctant to get crowns as I am only 21 but worry a brace would not be enough, what do you think?

Friday, January 28th, 2011
Q.

I have a 1cm gap between my front teeth but all the rest of my teeth are straight and line up. I went to see a dentist about getting the gap closed but was told by using braces he would have to move all my teeth forward to close the gap and that may not work or he could cut down my teeth and close it with crowns but he would be reluctant to do that as im only 21. So i came out of the appointment having been offered no solution. Is there any way i could get the gap closed and keep my natural teeth?

What is the best way to improve teeth that have had root canals?

Friday, January 28th, 2011
Q.

I currently have six teeth in top front that have previously had root canals done to them. What is the best way to improve them, they were never crowned or cap. One has a temporary cap but all the rest has had cosmetic work done to them. What do you suggest?

Would it be best to have a crown to repair a chipped tooth?

Thursday, January 27th, 2011
Q.

Last year I chipped my front tooth whilst drinking from a bottle. I have had the gap filled in but am not happy with the colour and finish of the filling. I have spoken to my NHS dentist about further treatment and the talk of a crown was mentioned. He explained that I may need to have some root canel done on the tooth because the chip may have damaged the nerves. I was basically wondering if to have a crown done on the private would result in a better finish i.e colour and shape, then to the NHS finished crown ? Is there a major difference if any in the procedure and materials used ?. Because the NHS dentist has done my fillings on the chip and adviced me that i may need root canel mean that I should stay with the NHS or would going private result in a better end product ?.My main aim would be to get a matching colour crown with the rest of my front teeth. Thanks for your time, hope to hear from you soon.

My crowns keep coming out, what do you advise?

Thursday, January 27th, 2011
Q.

I had several “procera” crowns fitted just over 2 years ago most of which replaced older crowns fitted around 20 years ago. One of the new crowns fell out 12 months ago and was refitted. This has recently again fallen out and another has also fallen out without warning. It would appear that the crowns were fitted onto posts that were fitted 2o years ago. I now have 2 prominent gaps and am having problems getting the crowns refitted. I am worried about infection to my open gums. What is your advice please.
