Does the fixed dental bridge have to be drilled off and the whole are be redone?

Q.
I have been reading about veneers but I am a little concerned about a couple of things. Firstly my teeth are stained but this is due to ( I have been told) antibiotics (penicillin i think) when I was much younger, so I dont think teeth whitening products are an option for me, also my front teeth are thinning-this is why I thought of veneers. However, what happens when the patient has , say, a crown on one of the teeth intended for a veneer and for a dental bridge(fixed many years ago- I know dentists generally would not use this method now).Does the foxed dentl bridge have to be drilled off and the whole are be redone? Thanks

One of my teeth is now black and ive cracked one of my bottom front tooth how can i fix it

Thursday, July 9th, 2009
Q.
Hi, i am 19 years of age and my bottom teeth are in a mess i would say. I recently had to get a tooth grinded down and built back up with root treatment and its now black and sit behind my teeth. I have also crached the back of my bottom front tooth and it will need a new backing – not yet went to the dentist. But i was mailing to ask if its possible to rip my whole bottom teeth out and get a new set put it. Is this possible? Im sure it is, as alot of celebs have had dental work done. Also how much would it cost? Im so paranoid about my bottom teeth that when i smile i only try smile showing my top teeth its really embarrasing. Please help, thanks alot!

why is that all makeovers are looking very dense looking and not at all natural and translucent

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009
Q.
I want to have my old crowns replaced which are the old type (bonded to metal). When I looked at the smile gallery I was very disappointed to see that the makeovers all look very dense looking and not at all natural and translucent like i imagined. Why is this?

Should ive an implant now on a chipped dead tooth or should i have a crown put on it

Monday, July 6th, 2009
Q.
The question I have for the dentist is whether I should have an implant now on a chipped dead tooth, or whether I should have a crown put on it until the tooth comes out naturally. I chipped my front top incisor and went to an emergency NHS dentist who has cut the tooth straight, and removed the nerve. She said the tooth is now dead, however she would recommend putting a crown on it, and letting it fall out naturally (year or so) not to disturb the gum/give more trauma to the gum, as it is still firmly in, and getting the implant once it falls out naturally. I have also been told by another dentist (just advice, not in person) that in leaving the tooth there, it could become prone to infection, which could potentially spread to the bone, making an implant more difficult later on, so two conflicting accounts. I’m not sure if the NHS dentist isn’t biased somewhat, as they don’t do implants, only crowns, but not sure. I was just after a second opinion really, as to be perfectly honest I don’t mind getting the implant now and getting the whole thing done and dusted. It’s probably also worth noting that the tooth to the side has also been slightly chipped, and will be made up with a composite next to it, not sure if that has any relevance to the main tooth. I also wanted to find out what make of implant you would recommend for this tooth? Is there a huge difference between makes, or ones that should be avoided? Many thanks.

after a crown preparation on a back molar i felt a slight pain do i need a root canal

Monday, July 6th, 2009
Q.
After crown preparation on a back molar I have slight pain when I bite and it is sensitive to cold. My question is should I ask for a root canal before the crown is placed next week I did have an xray and was told I did not need a root canal. The crown is needed due to a large amalgam filling that showed cracks.

The front tooth next to the last one is now black my nhs dentist cant give me a crown is it right

Monday, July 6th, 2009
Q.
I’m 37 years old and suffer with gingivitis which has weakened my gums. 6 months ago I had a fall and knocked my front tooth out.. I now have a denture in place. The front tooth next to the lost one is now black from the damage and is very obvious as my natural teeth were crooked and the denture is now straight. I asked my nhs dentist if I could have the black one crowned to even up the look of my teeth and he told me he wouldn’t do it on the nhs as it would only be for cosmetic reasons. I am on a low income and so cannot afford a private crown.. my dentist told me that the only option would be to have the tooth removed and a denture in place. Can this be right? I really want to keep my tooth but I’m so self conscious of my smile now.
