One of my root canal teeth cracked due to hard bite so should i go for dental crowns advice

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I had root canal treatment on a molar tooth a year ago and a subsequent infection which settled down with antibiotics. The tooth is cracked and my dentist has suggested I now have it crowned as this is likely to prolong the life of the tooth. However, I have noticed that the tooth sometimes feels slightly uncomfortable to hard pressure (ie certain foods) when I am eating although I’m not sure why this might be as the tooth is no longer live. I have been told previously that my bite on that side is rather hard which is why the tooth cracked in the first place. I was wondering if you could advise me what the likely explanation for this is and if it is safe to have it crowned? If I mention this when I go for the crown is it likely that my dentist will x ray the tooth first to see if there is any infection present? Also in your expert opinion, assuming the tooth is suitable to be crowned, is that the best treatment for it to preserve the tooth? Many thanks in advance for your advice.

I have a crown that has an underlying infection. It is surrounded by tow teeth that have relatively large fillings. I have been told that a bridge is my best option, would you agree? Thanks for your time

There is small gap between my lava crown and the gum what can be done to fix it?

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr Safeer, i have recently had 4 lava crowns fitted to my front teeth . The 2 on my left side look wonderful ! the problem is the other two are not as good, on one the margin is visable (only a very small amount 1 mm ) and i am worried that the exposed original tooth is going to decay more quickly, and my other concern is my gum hasn’t filled the gap between the crowns leaving a deep recess and not only is it not athestetic it also gets food stuck in this gap ! do you think im within my rights to have the dentist rectify the work free of charge ? what can be done about the gum?? i am so worried! I had to work so hard to pay for the crowns. should i ask for a refund ? the dentist was a general dentist in haywards heath. thank you so much for helping me i am so pleased people like u help people like me god bless you

The top surface of my two bottom teeth are starting to wear away what is the best solution

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009
Q.
The top surface of my two middle bottom teeth are starting to wear away. What is the best solution for this from a cosmetic point of view, i go regularly to the dentist and he has never said anything about it, so I dont know if it is a problem I should be concerned about, it may be due to teeth grinding? Also the last time I went to the dentist and had a clean and he said it removed some of the enamel at the bottom inside of my middle lower teeth, this area has now never felt quite right since this, leaving a rough feeling – is there anything I can get done about this.

Saturday, July 11th, 2009
Q.
Hello, i’d just like to know if i’m dentally ‘normal’?! i’m 32 years old, female, and work as a government researcher. i’ve got 7 fillings on my teeth (a couple very large) and a crown with a root treated tooth. is this normal for my age? i realise that everyone’s different, but, in terms of the cases you see everyday, does my dental work fit my age or have i had lots done? many thanks.

I had a root canal treatment when i had the crown but i have a terrible pain now advice

Friday, July 10th, 2009
Q.
I have been in terrible pain under an old crown, an x-ray showed infection and I am on antibiotics. the dentist says this will solve the problem but I am concerned – how did the infection get there and secondly wedsites suggest drainage of infection is necessary and antibiotics are not enough. I have never known pain like this – it throbs all the time and my crown is painful to touch. Ithink i had root canal treatment when I had the crown – so why does it hurt?
