my teeth are chipped at the top

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi Andrew, Was wondering if you could help. I have a number of problems with my teeth which may all be related to the same issue. I have been grinding my teeth for years and appear to have chips at the top of a number of my teeth by the gum line which my dentist has said were caused by this. These areas are slowly eroding and I also have a receeding gum problem which is making it look worse – I am not sure if I have gum disease. Is there are cosmetic dentistry that an be done to prevent it happening further and to cover the problem i.e veneers or filling in the holes? – I am only 29 and my gums are receeding quite a bit now which I am bit worried about – I also have quite yellow teeth and wondered if tooth whitening was a problem on already eroded teeth? All the best

Why is root canal so expensive? Is the treatment not available on NHS?

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr Moore, I recently had four front caps fall out. I went to theNHS dentist and he said I would either need a denture or root canal treatment the latter costing up to 13 hundred pounds. Is this treatment not availableon the NHS? He fixed the four teeth back in but as one of the posts was broken he said it would only last a short time. Thank you.

Im 20 and i chipped my teeth i want veneers

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hello Dr Moore, I have a question about veneers, Im 20 and i chipped my front tooth when i was around 9 and the other tooth had worn down because of this, so both teeth are now chipped, i have had temporary filling types on them for years and i know they are wearing away, they are still wonky and it really REALLY knocks my confidence and i do not smile and show them! Ever, its really starting to get me down. I want to have Veneers, but they are so expensive and i know i will not be able to afford them, is there anything you know of which is a cheaper option or what i should do about them. Advice would be very appriciated. Thank you

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi i have a constant build up of tartar on the front bottom teeth and it gathers in a slightly recessed gum even after one day, also notice bad tasting mouth within an hour of a good brush and mouth rinse. was thinking of purchasing a ionic toothbrush as a start, also my dentist said to brush the problem area in a clockwise circular motions to remove tartar but does not really help. also find it hard flossing the back teeth, when i do they normally bleed and smell quite bad probably the food debris etc. thanks

Can I have all my teeth extracted?

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi, I am looking at whether it would be possible to have all of my teeth extracted. Bad teeth run in the family and as a result of this both my parents now have dentures(due to poor teeth). I six crowns(five at the front and one at the back)the three at the front have moved leaving a considerable gap where there wasn’t one before. Most of my teeth have fillings, the fillings are fine but my teeth are crumbling around these. My teeth are very sensitive to temperature change hot or cold(mainly back teeth)and also sensitive to sweet foods. My gums have receeded alot and I can feel the tops of the teeth. I am terrified of going to the dentist as every visit usually ends up with more work needing doing. Any advice you could offer would be so helpful. Many thanks.
