Can I receive dental implants through the NHS?

Saturday, December 4th, 2010
Q.

hi dr solanki i am 32 years old and i am really unhappy when i was pregnant with my first child the four teeth at the front of my mouth started to become discoloured.when i had my daughter they were never the same.when i got pregnant with my second child they began to get worse to the extent that they started to decay badly and i have never had the confidence to go to the dentist as i feel ashamed as i dont want them to think i am a unclean person and that i have never looked after my teeth and also i dont want to have to hear i need dentures.i am so very unhappy i have not got a smile and i tend to mumble when i talk so i dont have to show my teeth if i had the money to have implants i would have them done tomorrow please help and could you tell me if i can get them done on the nhs.it is really affecting my life as it makes me very depressed.

I went to a private dentist and have realised what a bad job my previous NHS dentist did. What can I do?

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010
Q.

Hello,
I have just been to a private dentist today to enquire about getting my teeth whitened I decided to choose one of the best in Aberdeen (Fergus & Glover) they took one look in my mouth & cant believe how bad an NHS dentist has left it after getting treatment & X-ray done only 1 month ago, they said i need root canal on my front tooth and is surprised its not infected yet & also I have a massive hole in the tooth at the back? So i have any rights against an NHS dentist for leaving me like this and now leaving me with a massive bill that i will have to know pay to go private as i no longer trust the NHS? Thanks

Can I have my underbite corrected with an NHS dentist?

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010
Q.

hello I’m 32 yr old, and I have a really bad under-bite, I’m know as the Girl with out teeth, or the woman who never smiles, Because my mother was a single mother of three kids, she couldn’t afford to take me to the dentist.. I will be getting married soon and I would like to be able to smile walking down the isle.. I’ve looked in to cosmetic surgery, and I can’t afford to pay for it, so my question to you is what should I do, is there any way i can do to be able to smile..

How can I find a NHS dentist that will help me with my dental phobia?

Thursday, November 18th, 2010
Q.
I am 36 and not been to the dentist since i was 13 and had a bad experience over the last 16 years i have really needed to go but been in a controlling relationship and wasnt able to go even if i wanted to luckily he was sent to prison for 6 years just over a year ago now. Since then although i have a really bad phobia i have had to try and force myself to take my 2 kids to a dentist as my phobia and inability to go has caused them needing dental work.Although i have actually managed to walk through the door it is a very uncomfortable feeling and i can not be in the room when they have work done i am just glad my 2 teenagers are braver than me its them seeing if im ok on the way home instead of me being there for them . I need to try and get myself to a dentist but all the ones i come across have just made it even harder for me to see someone. They dont know my history so assume it is just a case of cant be bothered .I know i need all my teeth out as the ones that are left are stumps or rotten and after being basicaly locked in a house fo the last 10 years i also have problems with agrephobia where i find it difficult to actually walk out the house it doesnt make things any easier when i have visable rotten and missing teeth when i talk.I have tried emailing a few places in my local area but to be refered to anywhere that treats phobias and does this sort of work under sedation i am told i will need to be refered by a dentist..if i could find a dentist i was happy with and who understood my fears then i wouldnt be in this situation. I dont know if you work with nhs patients but if you do i would really appreciate some useful advice before i end up a total recluse.

Can I receive emergency treatment for broken crown/bridges on the NHS?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010
Q.
I have recently lost two of the crowns/bridges I am unsure which they werebut they had a small metal piece in the top of the tooth the went into the bone. Anyway sorry I lost two of the top front teeth at some point last week and my dentist is telling me he has no appointments forat least another week which means I have will only have my two middle front for some time, Is there anywhere I can go to get help quickly. I am an NHS patience and can’t afford private fee. Many thanks.,

Having previously had braces, will I be able to have them fitted again by a NHS dentist?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I had 4 teeth taken out and a fixed metal braces when I was younger, but my dentist took these off before the gaps had fully closed. I was just happy to have them off at the time. But now at 23 I am conscious of these gaps as you can see them when I smile, and my front teeth have moved forward rather than sitting straight. So, my question is, is private the only way I can get the ‘perfect smile’ or can I get braces again with an NHS dentist (obviously I would have to pay), and if so what braces do the NHS offer and what are the average prices? I think I would probably prefer the wire behind the teeth! But would like to know my options. Many Thanks For your time!,
