Which is the toughest type of crown?

Monday, October 4th, 2010
Q.
I had two veneers on my upper front teeth. I’ve had problems with them coming off. One has come off and I’m now going to get crowns. I really want something hardwearing but which also looks good. Can you advise whether metal bonded ones or pure porcelain ones are the toughest?.,

Is there a big difference in appearance between all porcelain crowns and metal crowns?

Monday, August 16th, 2010
Q.
hi there im currently undergoing treatment of 3 crowns and a bridge all upper front teeth, my nhs dentist was going to fit porcelain fused with metal crowns at a cost of 1200 but after a bit of research i discovered the all porcelain crowns, now i have a choice the metal crowns at 1200 or the all porcalain at 2800, is there gonna be a big difference in appearance ? will the metal crowns end up discolouring? if so how long? thanks,

Is there a difference in quality between a porcelain crown and a metal crown?

Friday, August 6th, 2010
Q.
Hi I need crowns on my two back molars, the difference in price is a lot – £600. My question is, is there a difference in quality or durability other than appearance? For the metal crown will more of the tooth have to be drilled away? thanks,

I’m worried that I have paid for a certain type of material, but have got another. What can I do?

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010
Q.
Hi, I’ve had 3 crowns fitted the first was metal based layered with porcelain – this was ok but I had a dark gum line. So I decided to have the next 2 crowns ‘all ceramic’ to avoid this dark line, but the dark gum line is even worse with the ceramic crowns. After reading up about crowns on the web and something a stand in dentist said at my practice I’m wondering if I’ve paid for ceramic but got the cheaper metal and porcelain crowns. Please advise.,

I have got to have either large fillings or crowns on LL6 and LL7. Would the nhs do white crowns on these teeth? Would white large fillings hold? Thanks.,

Should I have to cover cost of cracked crown that looks bad?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010
Q.
Hi, I just began seeing this dentist who was going to put a porcelain crown on one of my molars. She told me to bite down to get it in place and the porcelain cracked. She told me that it is because my bite is unusually strong. I felt like I was being careful. She said the lab would cover the cost since it happened at her office but that they would only cover it once. The next crown was porcelain fused around one side of a metal crown for cosmetic purposes. She told me to bite down and I was being careful but then she said I even chipped the porcelain on that crown. She said it didnt really matter since it was metal underneath. When she tried to remove it, it took her about 20-30 minutes to remove it. She was banging and jerking all over it. She finally got it off and then cemented it in place. The fit is good but the pocelain is totally chewed up and looks bad. I was wondering if this is a common issue with crowns/dentists or if the dentist should cover the cost of a new crown since the lab won’t. I paid $1100 for the crown and it just doesnt seem ethical to leave such a chewed up crown in place.,
