Q. i would like know how its the cost 6 month smiles brace top and bottom teeth
A. 6 months smile costs vary, a rough guide is £2500-4000. It depends on what you need doing it is also important that you realise it is not the same as conventional treatment as it only straightens the front 10 teeth top and bottom. I would always get a full assessment and make sure you aware of all the options to straighten your teeth.

Q. my daughter has a removable brace on her back teeth which has made a noticable gap in her front teeth. she is finding this very stressful and the othodontist has not explained the process. i would appreciate it if you could explain why this has happended and more importantly if it will be permanent.
A. I doubt it will be permanent ask him to explain things, I guess it is space creation to help with the crowding

Q. Hi. Please can you advise me on whether I should have a crown or try bonding first… The corner of one of my teeth has broken off - it is on the bottom set, the second double tooth from back (I only have 4 double teeth each side). I had a lot of pain eating on it and my dentist presumed there was a crack but couldn’t find it, so replaced my filling in the hope it would help. Two weeks later part of it has fallen off. I have been given the option of having the corner rebuilt (with same material as used for fillings I think), but dentist cannot determine how strong this would be and whether it would last as these are my main chewing teeth. The price for that would be around £100, or he has suggested a porcelain crown at £500. (I would not consider the gold option as it would be visible). Obviously that is a lot of money which I don’t really want to spend. Would you advise me to try the bonding first or just go straight for the crown? with thanks
A. Bonding for a back tooth will only last a very short amount of time and can fall off pretty easily when biting, that is why a crown is usually the best option

Q. I had my front tooth taken out because it was constantly coming loose. I now have a partial denture but considering a bridge as i cannot afford an implant. Which is the best bridge option and what are the pros and cons of having a bridge put in?
A. The best bridge option will depend on factors like how heavily filled the teeth are next to the gap are, the bone support and the syrength of your bite. Then factor in cost and appearance. Pros and cons depend on the bridge design.
Sorry not to be more specific.

A. I can’t really tell what is the best type of treatment for you, however it sounds like it would be worth thinking about a more permanent solution now the gums have matured, you should ask your dentist again what she thinks would be best in the long term

Q. my teeth are really badly damaged and i had 2 get the nerve removed from my two front teeth and get rot fillings but the fillings are chiping away and my dentist told me she would have to fit crowns in. i dont want crowns ecause alot of people that i know have told me they fall out all the time and i was wondering is there any chance i could get porcelain veneers free on the NHS if my dentist agreed?? thanks
A. It is very unusal for crowns to keep falling out. If the procedure is carried out well and a good technician is used then the crowns should last for many years.

Q. My daughter, who is nearly 6, lost both of her incisors at the same time. Two months later her canines fell out. My concern is that although one of her incisors has grown through the other one hasn’t. And as already mentioned her canines are also now beginning to show through even though they fell out two months laster. I am worried that she has not got an incisor to come out and I was wondering whether if this can be possible and if so what can I do to help her. No one in our family has ever had this problem, although I have read on the internet that adult teeth in children can sometimes be missing and that it is genetic. Please help. How long should I wait before I can be sure that she hasn’t got a tooth to come out.
A. I would ask your dentist to take an x-ray of the area to check the teeth erupting. She is quite young, the teeth maybe under the gum as they don’t always come through in pairs at the same time

Q. sir, My teeth are totaly yellow and some where a blck cracks on the back jaw. please advice me about this problem thanks,
A. hi
you either have decay or staining in the fissures of the teeth, which may need fillings if it is decay
yellow colour is due to inadequate cleaning or staining
you can try bicarbonate toothpaste or whitening

Q. Hello. Please could you give me some advice regarding chrome dentures, I have quite a few missing molar teeth from my bottom jaw which make eating very difficult. I still have my very back molars but probably 2 missing from each side. I try to look after my teeth but have never been very lucky with my teeth. I have type 1 diabetes so I am not sure if this affects my teeth ? I went to my dentist today and she said the best option would be a chrome denture which I thought was for old people in a glass next to the bed. I had a quick look at the dentists but was a little worried people woud see I have dentures every time I smile and would they not be uncomfortable to eat with ? It looked like they clasp onto existing teeth so does this mean my good front teeth need to be groung to fit the clasp ? It would be great to see some pictures of chrome dentures and what they look like in someones mouth. Any advice or tips you could give me would be great as I feel really down about my teeth. Kind regards
A. Hi
Of course there are a variety of options to replace teeth. Aswell as dentures there are bridges or implants. I see many patients who are unhappy with dentures and therefore look for alternative options.

Q. I have had white fillings along the top of my two front teeth but the dentist smeared them over the teeth and my teeth have now stained a darker colour than the surrounding teeth. Is it possible to get these fillings removed?
A. hi
it should be simple to replace them or polish them in to get rid of the excess
white fillings will always stain over time

Q. Hi…I have had a desire to improve my smile for years as I hate my teeth. They are not too crooked but could do with a more aligned brighter smile. Is there a significant difference between venneers and crowns, both in terms of durability and cost. any advice welcomed thanks
A. Veneers are less destructive to the teeth as less reduction is required. crowns are probably stronger. The costs are very similar as are the final results

Q. i have a porcelan brige of 8 teeth and it keeps falling out. i have had it about 18 mo. dentist now wants me to get false teeth and pull all roots…can you help me with better news than that…..i am 70 and in good health
A. You could ask him if its possible to replace the roots with implants instead of dentures. This might be a more comfortable alternative to false teeth

Q. I have a molar which had been filled with amalgum about 8 years ago in a cross shape. Recently two p[ieces of the tooth around the edge have broken off leaving the filling and the front part of the tooth. The filling is slightly loose. There is no pain in the tooth atall. Do you think this would need crowning or can it just be built up and smoothed off with white stuff. And if a crown in required would it need a post, as its a molar. Also what is the criteria for doing a root canal, was wondering if this would be necessary aswell. Thanks
A. hi
the chance of needing root canal is dependent on if there are any nerve symptoms which your dentist should be able to confirm with tests and an x ray.
if you have lost that much tooth you will be advised to have a crown, a post is only used when there is not enough tooth and a root canal has been done

Q. I was wondering if there was a gel that I could use without having a surgery to clean my teeth. A instant teeth whitener gel.
A. I am afraid there is not a instant whitener gel which is effective.

Q. I have veneers in my front five teeth. Then later as I had cross bites in my side teeth I decided to have braces. My dentist was happy to put braces for my cross bites and he did but he doesn’t want to do it on my front ones as he fears that i might damage my veneers and doing veneers again is not only steep but can damage my teeth. Although I have veneers in my front teeth but I am not satisfied as I show my top gum a lot and my front teeth sticks out a bit. Is there anything that my dentist can do without damaging my veneers??
A. I doubt that you can do this without removing the veneers, but you aska specialist Orthodontist to take a look in case there is another option.

Q. Hi Dr Moore, I had a deep filling 2 weeks ago and ever since then I have suffered with pains on my jaw line and also in my ear. I can eat on it and can touch it and clean teeth without it hurting. I dont ever get any pain when lying down and it does not keep me awake at night either. It does hurt when I eator drink anything too hot. I have been given 2 lots of antibiotics saying i may have a root infection but they dont seem to be doing anything.I have been back to 2 dentists and they say that the filling is deep and quite near to the root but no one can offer me any advice how to get rid of the pain or why it only hurts when I am moving about. I would be grateful for any advice Many Thanks..
A. Hi, I think the tooth will need a root canal treatment to stop this discomfort, ask your dentist to take a look and arrange this for you if the pain doesn’t stop
