I’m 19 And I Get Bullied For Having Large Gums. Would I Get Gingival Contouring On The NHS?

Tuesday, January 7th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew, I hope you can help me. I’m 19 years of age and for most years of my life I have been bullied for having large gums and a gummy smile. I’ve looked into it and seen about the Gingival contouring, but with my gums been as big as they are I’m wondering how much it would be or whether I’d be able to get it on the NHS? I’d appreciate it if you could help me as it’s something I really need sorting as it’s affecting my confidence. Thanks.

I’m Scared I’ll Lose All My Teeth If My Gum Disease Spreads. Can You Help?

Monday, January 6th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore, I was just wondering if you could tell me is it true whether I have gum disease or not on my next to last tooth at the back and the top of my mouth is receding really badly and very painful. I’ve been told if I don’t get it out it will most probably spread along to my other teeth and I am really worried I don’t want to lose my teeth but really need to get it out it is so painful. Do you think it will spread to my other teeth? I hope you can give me some advice so I can fix this problem and hopefully prevent it from spreading. Thanks.

I Am Constantly Getting Gum Disease As I Have Gaps In My Teeth. Can The Gaps Be Filled In Any Way?

Friday, December 13th, 2013
Q.

I am constantly getting gum disease, I am 61 and visit the dentist regularly. I have gaps between nearly all of my teeth, and with age I suppose and fed up of picking food from my teeth every single time I eat food. Can you tell me if the gaps can be filled or what can be done as I need to sort this problem out? My dentist says that I cannot have the gaps filled, this problem is driving me mad. I hate going to the dentist for the hygienist to clean my teeth as it really hurts, my gums are very sore at the moment and this is due to gum disease yet again.

I Have A Metal Denture With Lots Of Discomfort, Would A Flexible Denture Be Kinder To My Gums?

Tuesday, December 10th, 2013
Q.

Dr Shaffie. I have 10 teeth at the top of my mouth on a metal denture with lots of discomfort, it’s held in place by metal clasps on one side only has there are no teeth on the left. Oral thrush and mouth ulcers are part of my every day life. I have seen my dentist who thinks a new plate would be beneficial. Well I tend to agree that getting rid of the metal would be good as having a plastic replacement seems silly as this one was a replacement for my last plastic denture. Would a flexible denture be better and kinder on my gums and if so is it possible to hold it in place with no support on the left side? And what is the cost of these dentures.? Thank you.

I Still Get Pain From Root Canal Treatment I Had Years Ago. Can You Refer Me To Someone Who Can Help?

Friday, November 15th, 2013
Q.

Hello,
I had the first root canal treatment done over 10 years ago now. A few more canal treatments on the same tooth and the adjacent tooth followed as the first treatment has not resolved the pain I was suffering with. I have seen many dentists and some endodontics since then. All of them said the root canal work had been done exceptionally well and they can’t see anything which may cause pain. However I still suffer with an irritating, dull, sometimes pulsating spontaneous toothache and tender gum around them which comes and goes. I was in agony for 2 weeks after my recent visit to a hygienist. It drives me mad. Can you help or refer me to someone who can? Thank you.

My Gums Started Bleeding Recently, I Want To Know How Long It Takes Each Stage Of Gum Disease To Take Hold?

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hello, Dr Moore. About a month ago now, I noticed that my gums began bleeding after brushing. This kept happening for around a week or so. I visited my dentist and he gave me antibiotics. I will see him in four weeks from now.

I have also now started using the recommended mouthwash. My question is how long does it take to go from minor gingivitis to periodontal disease? Approx how long would it take to get to that stage if unchecked?

P.s if you are at periodontitis stage, can this alter your face?

What are the tell tell signs that distinguish each stage? Thank you in advance for your consideration.

My Dentist Said He Can’t Do Anything About My Periodontal Disease, Is This True?

Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013
Q.

Hi,

I was subject to bad periodontal disease caused by smoking (I think). The bleeding went on for a long period of time before I had it seen to but by then it was far too late, the damage was done. I have the disease under control now through regular cleaning but I have lost a lot of bone apparently and gum recession of around point 4. The gaps are quite noticeable but my dentist keeps saying there is nothing that can be done. Is this true? I thought he would have been a bit more helpful! I’m looking for some sort of restorative treatment in order for my old smile to come back, I used to have such a nice smile. I just don’t believe that NOTHING can be done. Surely there is something? Can you please offer me some advice? Thank you for taking your time to read this.

Where Can I Have Waterlase MD Gum Treatment?

Thursday, July 4th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I wondered if you could advise me on something? I have dark gums due to smoking cigars for a long time! I would like to get waterlase MD to make them look pink and health once more. Can you please tell me if you do this or where in the UK I can get the procedure done. I have tried several places in Harley street and all over London, and some of the dentists haven’t even heard of the procedure of gum de-pigmentation. The US offers it everywhere. I also wondered if you could please let me know about teeth bleaching too? Do you think this could improve the appearance of my gums or will it only make them look worse? I’d like to know what sort of whitening treatments are the most effective. Thank you for the help in advance, regards.

I Want My Gummy Smile Fixing, Can You Help Me With This?

Thursday, July 4th, 2013
Q.

Hi,  I am very interested in having my gums cut and raised up, Gingivoplasty I think its called. I have a bit of top gum showing when I smile that I don’t like giving me a gummy smile. I’ve always had this gummy sort of smile and I’m fed up with it now, it makes me feel self-conscious and I just want to get rid of it! Can you please give me an estimate on getting this done and would you be available to do it the first week of August? I contacted you in the past to get a quote for a full top layer of veneers to hide my gums but this procedure is much more suitable for me I don’t think. Look forward to hearing from you. Just a general sort of idea would be great, thank you for the advice in advance. Kind regards.
