My Gums Have Receded, Can I Have The Gum Put Back In. What Treatment Is This Called And Are There Any Alternatives?

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Patel,
Two questions I would like to ask please:
1. My gums have receded on my top teeth the four in the middle, I believe I can have the gum put back in, what is this called and any advice would be appreciated? 2. My daughter’s bottom teeth stick out over her top set. I got it checked out and her jaw line is fine. She has lost her two bottom teeth now and they are coming through, but I am sure she will need a brace or something to make sure the new top teeth coming through come over her bottom ones. She is nearly 6. Should I be making an appointment with orthodontist now?

I look forward to your reply. Kind regards.

My Smile Has A Gap And Is Gummy. Is There Anyway I Can Have The Gum Removed And The Gap Closed?

Wednesday, March 19th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Patel, I have a gap in between my front two teeth and the gum inbetween my teeth where the gap is, seems to be kind of gummy. Is there anyway I can have the part of my gum removed and something done to where my teeth will close in making the gap smaller within a small amount of time? This has been bothering me all my life and I have been made fun of all 29 years of it. I want better self- esteem. I am a single low income mother. Is there anything that can be done about my problem and if so what’s the cost and where can I get it done? Thank you.

My Gums Are Receding From Over-brushing. I Now Have A Good Oral Health Regime. Is There Any Treatment That Can Help Me?

Tuesday, March 18th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Patel, I’m hoping for some advice. I have very thin gums at the bottom front of my mouth and receding on one tooth. This is due to overbrushing. I now follow a strict oral regime including brushing in small circular motions using a soft bristled toothbrush, flossing and using interdental brushes, at night time and taking vitamin supplements. The thinning and receding is causing me much distress and anxiety. What are my treatment options? Can anything be done about this or should I just continue my regime. Thanks, I hope you can help me with this problem.

I Don’t Like My High Lip-line! What Can Be Done? Does This Come Under Gum Contouring?

Friday, March 14th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I don’t like my high lip-line! It seems I have little control when I really laugh, even though my lips are quite big when settled/relaxed. What can be done? Does it come under gum contouring? Also, my front two teeth are long (like a chipmunk!) My dentist suggested getting a brace but I’m still thinking as it’s a lot of money and I’m not sure that a brace would change the shape of the teeth? They are naturally set longer than the others, not protruding though, and not crooked. Thank you for your time.

If I Have Osseous Surgery Will My Teeth Become Loose And Brittle? I’m Terrified They Will. Is There Anything Else That Can Be Done?

Tuesday, February 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew, I was wondering whether you can tell me if it is true that teeth become loose and brittle after osseous surgery? I been told I may need this gum surgery and I am terrified about what the outcome will be with my mouth and teeth?
I have receding gums and spaces between my teeth, especially the top teeth, but otherwise I have good oral hygiene. What other options might be available for me to have instead of this gum surgery? Does it really have to be so drastic, this surgery? Please advise me on this. Thank you.

I’ve Had Swollen Gums For Months But My Dentist Doesn’t Seem To Know How To Get Rid Of It. What Should I Do?

Monday, February 10th, 2014
Q.

Hi, in October, I flossed and my gum was bleeding because I pulled the floss out too hard. The next day, the tooth started hurting. A month after, I went to the dentist, as it wasn’t getting any better. She did an x-ray and said my teeth were fine but just had some tartar build up so I booked an appointment to get a deep cleaning but had to wait 2 months. In the meantime my tooth was still causing me problems and my gum was feeling irritated all the time. I tried rinsing with salt water, corsodyl mouthwash, mouthwash with tea tree oil and clove oil, and so on but nothing was working. I went back to the dentist and she said she didn’t realise that I had a cut on the gum and also may have food stuck under the gum and the gum was swollen but not red and I had been eating on that side. She said she couldn’t see any decay and just put some antiseptic cream on the gum and told me to rinse with salt water. Since having this problem, I have also been getting the flu a lot. I went to the doctor who gave me flucloxacillin. I had my teeth cleaned in January and told her my gum was swollen but she didn’t think it was and said it looked like I had a scab on the gum and it looked like it was healing. The cut has healed but the gum is still swollen and I have had flu again. It is really worrying me because I know I have an infection and the dentist won’t do anything. What else can I do and does the gum need to be cut to get rid of the infection, as nothing else seems to be working? Thanks.

After Learning About The Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation Technique, I’d Like To Know When This Would Be Available In The UK?

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I have a question for you. After learning about the Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation technique, I was wondering when we would see this technique available in the UK? It seems to be a real alternative to the dreaded gum graft with similar if not better results, which is suture and incision free, whilst also taking less time to carry out with a better and more comfortable healing time. Is this something we will see in the UK in the very near future? Thanks!

Despite My Good Oral Health Regime, I Still Suffer From The Problem Of Bad Breath, Is There Anything I Can Do?

Thursday, January 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew, I’ve been suffering with bad breath for a long time now and I see the dentist every 4 months. They are happy of my cleaning, and the dentist suggested to me to carry with this cleaning method. I brush twice a day and clean my tongue by using an inter-dental brush.  I gargle with mouthwash but I still have this bad breath problem. Even with my dentist scaling my teeth every 4 months time and when I do that I feel little better but it is no solution. Please help me to sort out this problem. Thank you. I look forward to your advice.

I Went To My Dentist And They Said I Have A BP Score Of 3. How Can I Improve The Health Of My Gums?

Friday, January 10th, 2014
Q.

Hello. I’ve been to see my dentist today for a check up and teeth cleaning. I noticed he mentioned BP to his assistant and she replied “some 3 but mostly 2” Does this mean my gums are getting worse as 6 months ago I was all 2s. I do use mouthwash, mostly ones that are intended for sore or bleeding gums but don’t always brush twice a day or floss. Also is there anything you could suggest please to improve the health of my gums if it means they are becoming worse?

I Feel Self Concious About The Way My Face Looks Without Some Of My Teeth. How Can I Replace My Missing Teeth?

Wednesday, January 8th, 2014
Q.

I am a 33 year old girl and I’m currently missing my bottom back teeth due to a calcium deficiency, and my top two front teeth were punched out due to domestic violence. I am really self conscious as your teeth shape your face and my face looks withdrawn and my other teeth are falling out due to my gums shrinking. Can you please advise me on what I can do thank you very much. I think I’d need dental implants to fix these issues is that right.
