My Smile Has A Gap And Is Gummy. Is There Anyway I Can Have The Gum Removed And The Gap Closed?

Q.
Hi Dr Patel, I have a gap in between my front two teeth and the gum inbetween my teeth where the gap is, seems to be kind of gummy. Is there anyway I can have the part of my gum removed and something done to where my teeth will close in making the gap smaller within a small amount of time? This has been bothering me all my life and I have been made fun of all 29 years of it. I want better self- esteem. I am a single low income mother. Is there anything that can be done about my problem and if so what’s the cost and where can I get it done? Thank you.

Hi, thank you for your enquiry. You can have the gum lasered away but it might come back, there is also a procedure called a frenectomy that might help but you will probably need braces to close the gaps made. This website has information on the various treatments and what they involve to help you. An internet search of the clinics in your area should help you find a clinic that can offer this type of treatment, usually under gummy smile treatment. I hope this helps. Dr Riten Patel BDS.
