I Show At Least An Inch Of My Gums When I Smile. Can You Advice Me On Which Treatment Options Are Available To Rectify This?

Monday, July 7th, 2014
Q.

Hi there. I’m a 35 year old woman.

I’m concerned with my ‘gummy smile’ which causes me to feel self conscious. I show at least just over half an inch when fully smiling. Can you advise which treatments options are available to me and recommend the best UK dentists to carry out those treatments. A few years ago I had some cosmetic work to cover acid erosion at the top of my 2 front teeth. Would this limit my options? Many thanks.

I Have Gone Almost 2 Years Waiting For Dentures To Get Made. How Can I Get Soft Dentures?

Monday, July 7th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes, I have waited almost 2 years to get dentures made, after four top sets being made they still look disgusting and really bad. I was sent to a dental school at my local hospital and I am getting another top set made, but it already looks like the teeth are too large and the plate is the thickest I’ve ever seen. Do you know of anyone that will help me just get teeth that make me want to smile again? I would get implants if they were available for me, but unfortunately I am out of work. I have heard of soft dentures that look real and would settle for them. Thanks.

The Gap In My Smile Is Starting To Mess With My Confidence. Would Cosmetic Bonding Be Available Through The NHS As I’m Under 18?

Friday, July 4th, 2014
Q.

Hello, I’m under 18 years old and have a gap between my teeth and Its really starting to mess with confidence. I’ve had it since I lost my baby teeth, it’s not very big, only about a quarter of a centimetre but to me it’s a lot. My dentist tells me I don’t need braces but the two teeth next to my front top teeth aren’t straight. But anyway I’m not bothered about those it’s just my gap. I have very thin teeth as it is so I was wondering if tooth bonding would be free on the NHS as I’m 14?

I Have Spaces Between My Front Teeth. As A Student I’d Like To Know The Ideal Treatment For Fixing This?

Friday, July 4th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes,

I have a question about my teeth. Basically my bottom teeth are fine but my upper teeth have spaces (gaps) between most of the front teeth. I’m really insecure about it and I want to do the 6 months smile programme. But I want to know how much the price will be for that and what is the best treatment I could have?

I’m a university student right now as well therefore I would be able only to spend maximum £1900 for my teeth. Therefore I wanna know the best treatment thats available for me please get my back to me if you can.

Thank you.

The Gap Between My Veneers Is Getting Bigger And I Sometimes Get A Horrible Smell. Is This Something I Need To Worry About?

Thursday, July 3rd, 2014
Q.

Hello,

I had 6 porcelain veneers placed on to my top 6 middle teeth in 2008. I had this done as I had a small gap which I wanted to close.

Fast forward to 2014 and my gap is bigger than it ever was. And my biggest problem is I am worried that the veneers are causing me to have bad breath. I can sometimes get a horrible smell coming from the top of the veneers near my gums.

I floss and brush my teeth twice a day and use mouthwash.

My experience of having these veneers fixed was horrendous and has left me with an extreme fear of dentists.

I don’t know what to do about this. I do not have the finances to have this procedure done again. Please can you help?

I Have Had A Maryland Bridge For 8 Years But The Bond Keeps Failing Now. What Should I Do?

Thursday, July 3rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I have had my Maryland bridge in for about 8 years. The bond tends to fail usually after 2 to 3 years but I always have it refitted. It normally takes about 15 to 20 minutes to refit. This would include removal of any cement from the adjacent teeth and the Maryland bridge wings. It failed again 3 weeks ago and was refitted in just 5 minutes, it failed after 5 days, refitted again and now failed after 3 days. Again only 5 minutes was spent in the chair. Can you tell me what prep is usual in refitting the Maryland? Thank you for your time.

My Teeth Seem To Be Moving And I Want To Have Veneers. I Researched Loads But Haven’t Ever Found An Accurate Price. Could You Tell Me?

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I’ve had a lot of trouble with my teeth in the past and I’ve had corrective treatment. I turned down braces due to a metal phobia and at the time (I was 16) my parents could not afford the invisalign braces. I’m now 18 and as the dentist warned me that my teeth would move (this is due to having my 2 fangs out as they grew in front of my teeth with two flat ones behind them. I really want veneers and the question is how much does it cost per tooth. I’ve researched loads but haven’t ever found an accurate price!

Is It Possible For Me To Have A Crown Fitted? I’ve Had Health Issues In The Past And I’m Worried My Crowns Aren’t Secure.

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I hope you can help me out. I have two top front teeth that are caps with studs. Is it possible for me to have a crown fitted? Also what would the average cost be? I have had an heart operation 3 years ago and was ill for some time. My dentist will not see me now as I did not keep up my 6 month checks but told them I was very ill and off work for over 6 month. My crowns are not secure and I’m worried about the health side of things. Thank you for your reply in advance.

I Have Had A Root Canal On A Crowned Tooth. Would It Be Possible To Get A Bridge For Two Teeth Or Would I Need Dental Implants?

Tuesday, July 1st, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark, I have been to the dentist and been told I need to have a root canal on a crown I had years ago which has never worked and he is not sure how much tooth is left, also the tooth next to it is not in a great condition, the top is completely crumbled but he might be able to save it to crown. The cost is too much to have the work done on both so my other option is to have them both out. Not sure what to do other than that though. Would I be able to get a bridge for two teeth or would I need to get implants? Also how much money would that be?
Thank you.

My Periodontal Disease Is Now Under Control. Which Treatment Will Make The Large Black Triangles Less Apparent?

Tuesday, July 1st, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark, I have black triangles across my front upper teeth (incisors/canines) due to periodontal bone loss, some of them are large and noticeable when I smile. My periodontal disease is now being treated and is currently stable. Is cosmetic bonding a possible solution for making these black triangles less apparent? Are there any other methods for filling black triangles? Is there anything that can be done? Thank you for your time.
