Can I Get Implants On The NHS?

Monday, January 7th, 2013
Q.

Hello Doctor,
top right jaw I had a large mola removed in Dec, I’ve no longer any top corner top teeth im finding it hard to eat on this side of my mouth because I have nothing to bite my food with, and I’m having to chew on my left side, today I chatted with my dentist about an implant to replace the large tooth I lost, he siad it would cost £1000-£2000 for a single implant. Do you think that any NHS teaching hospitals would be able to do it cheaper as i’m not working at the moment and so cannot really afford to pay that amount of money. My dentist said the NHS wouldnt pay for my implant, just wondered if there was anything I could do to help myself, as im finding it hard to eat normaly,
thanks, I look forward to hearing your response

What is the best solution to repair a loose post crown connected to a bridge and another post crown?

Friday, January 4th, 2013
Q.

hi im looking for some advice/information please what are the options/best solution to repairing a loose post crown connected to a bridge and another post crown? on the upper jaw, at the front, one of the tooth routes has apparently got a split (not certain??) and the advice given was to remove the tooth completely, wait 3-6 months for it to heal and then fit a new bridge spanning the gap of three teeth. is this a recommended course of action couldnt the existing bridge just be cemented back in? (i have a new dentist and im a bit unsure of her!) any response is welcome thank you

Should I be worried about continued dental pain after root canal treatment?

Monday, April 2nd, 2012
Q.

I finished root canal treatment yesterday, after checking the xray, a tiny bit at the very top of the root has been missed, this morning it feels the same as it did at the beginning before ant treatment began.I ,ve had 1 weeks course of antibiotics,it was cleaned out as this was being done it was very smelly and the pulp had rotted away. It was covered & i went back 9 days later,it stil felt odd sort of tingly numb feeling & the smell was back. When it was being recleaned yesterday i could smell it again it was also a bit swollen and tender at the top, she finshed the job & then checked the xray where it was noticed a tiny bit has been missed, she seemed to think it would be fine i have to go back in 10 days, but at the minute it feels the same as it did right at the beginning about 6 weeks now

can you tell me what the long term effects would be of not having my infected tooth removed?

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011
Q.

I have a continuing infection in a tooth which has had root canal treatment several years ago. There is considerable bone loss now and the tooth gets loose and then tightens up again when the infection has passed. My dentist recommends that I have the tooth removed but I am a bit of a coward. Could you advise me what the long term effects are if I do not have the tooth removed. I have heard that it could cause me to become very ill if I allow it to continue.

My tooth has developed two cracks, will I have to have it removed?

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011
Q.

Hi Mark,
One of my back teeth which has had a filling for years has now developed 2 cracks on the inside about 3mm apart. The cracks run vertically from the end of the tooth to 3/4 up the tooth towards the gum line. I can move this piece of tooth if i push it hard with my tongue although it is still held fairly ridgedly in place. If this piece were to fall out looking at the inside of the tooth i would be left iwth 2 pieces of the side wall of the tooth left and right with with a visible filling in the middle. My friend says i will be able to use the tooth like this because if i visited a dentist he would extract it straight away. Would this be the case.

I have had many tooth removals, can a human survive with only 26 teeth?

Monday, May 16th, 2011
Q.

Dear doctor,

i’m having a very complex situation,
im 24 years and i already lack 4 teeth in my mouth ,as they have been removed 11 years back due to crowded teeth.(2 canines from upper jaw and 2 molars from lower jaw)….& after that i had lovely straight teeth but recently the upper teeth have come forward. and i wanted to push them back. so my doctor says i should remove two of my molars from the upper jaw to gain space and push the front teeth back. (as i have already done with the expander also and still the teeth are not in the proper place)

but im too scared to remove molars because if i remove two molars now, i will be left with only 12 teeth in the uper jaw and im scared it will alter my facial structure and make my face look flat as people say.
so doctor, will it affect my facial shape and lips in a negative way like that?

is it ok to have 26 teeth? i mean can a human survive with 26 teeth?

and is it a good option to remove 2 molars?

please please answer my problems and help me to take a better decision about removing teeth. thank you very much.,

I am fearful of the dentist, would I be able to get sedation as part of my treatment?

Monday, May 16th, 2011
Q.

Hi i am a very nervous patient when it comes to dentists, when i was 15 i had a really bad extraction that has scared me off dentists tottaly, im now 24 and need some major work in the form of crowns, fillings and proberly another extraction or two, and i guess i would need all that done before i could even think of getting lumineers to then cover it all up? just writeing down all the dental work turns my stomach, would a dentist condider doing the majority if not all the work i need in one visit under sedation?

What other options than braces does my 14 year old daughter have?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

my 14 yr old daughter has seen an orthodentist who has said she needs 4 extractions and then a brace. she has only minor crowding on the bottom front teeth at one side and doesn’t like her pointy canines at the top which are noticible when she smiles.the dentist said she needed the extractions to be able to line up her bite correctly. on looking at her the teeth are only a couple of mm off and not really noticible. given that her issues seem quite minor would she be able to correct the canines with veneers to achieve as nicer look without all the extractions and braces.

My crown has broken off. What should I do and how much will it cost?

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011
Q.

My crown broke off leaving the metal post embedded in the remaining tooth.? Front tooth.
Emergency services could not help me.
what will be the next proceedure as i nee to return to work following the bank holiday and i dont wish to be walking around with a massive gap in my tooth.
I still have the crown with me which was fitted over 15 years ago. I have the other 3 crowns in place. I dont think they are weakened. The dentist I spoke with at the emergency services said this could have been a result of wear and tear.
What should I do & how much will this cost?
