Advice on gap between the back of the crowns and gums

Sunday, September 20th, 2009
Q.
I had an absess in my upper gum and even after treatment my tooth began to darken, last year I told my dentist this was a problem as it was at the front of my mouth and showed when I smiled. He chose to fit a crown, this was done last year and although I am getting used to it it still does not feel right. I have just been to a check up and mentioned my concern to my dentist but after checking it he says it is fine. I feel like there is a gap between the back of the crown and my gum and fear food, fizzy drink etc are getting in behind it, is this normal to feel this?

Are maryland bridges the best option to hide indent in gums?

Monday, September 14th, 2009
Q.
Thank you for answering my previous question about my 13 year old daughter and the best age for an implant. Since we will be going with a Maryland Bridge until she is 19 and can’t do a bone graft until then, is there anything that can be done to build up the very noticeable indent in her gums above the missing tooth. When she laughs it is extremely noticeable. Since she is only 13 it doesn’t bother her right now but as she gets older say 15 or 16 she will have a problem with it. I wish I had been told by the orthodontist that this indent could have been a possibility when there is a missing adult tooth. We would have waited to start the second phase to open the space until she was 16 or 17 so she could have gone straight to the implant and bone graft after the braces. Please let me know if this would have been a possibility which would have saved us a lot of grief and expense? Thanks.

Im 54 and i have receding gums what can i do?

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009
Q.
Hi, i have always looked after my teeth and they are still in good condition. however, i have now got receding gums at the back of my lower teeth. this has affected 2 teeth each side. next to these teeth i have a missing tooth each side. removed when i was a child. i am 54 now. i have been told by dentists over the years that i am brushing my teeth too hard. can i have crowns fitted over the teeth that have the receding gums and can i have implants to fill the gaps between the teeth, thus protecting my gums from further damage from brushing.

My dentures are very uncomfortable can u suggest what i can do?

Saturday, September 5th, 2009
Q.
Hi, Today i had two teeth removed top front right (next to by front tooth) I was fitted right away with a denture. Im finding it very uncomfortable and i am aware of the healing process. I cannot take out the teeth at all to clean they are so tight. Also, my bite feels completely wrong. Ive eaten nothing only soup today. The denture has an extended gum piece on.. Can this be shaved off or corrected so it is not as noticable? i can see the pink gum piece when i smile, as so will others. My mouth feels so uncomfortable right now i want to remove the denture for when i go to bed and to clean it along with my teeth, but cannot remove it. Please can you advise on my denture problem. Kindest regards.

Should i get my teeth removed?

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009
Q.
Hi i’m 15 years old and i don’t live in uk (i’m a student studying in sri lanka) but please do answer my questions :)i’ve been visiting so many dentists and orthodontist for consultations on braces and all of them tells me that i need to extract 4 teeth if i wanted to get braces done.. well..i don’t want to remove any teeth but.. my front teeth are front and they slightly overlap and i’ve got an extra tooth on the bottom..other teeth are quite straight and they don’t look crooked and they (dentists and orthodontists also said that too) they say that i have approximately 8~10mm of space when i bite my teeth together and that my teeth are crowded.. would i really have to get my 4 teeth removed?
