i have some white spots on my upper teeth what might be reason? is there a remedy

Sunday, April 19th, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr. Safeer, I’m a 15 yr old girl wearing ceramic braces. I take care of my teeth well [atleast that’s what I feel]. My teeth look good after I brush them at night. But when I wake up in the morning, I notice some white spots on my upper front teeth. Even after brushing my teeth, they don’t disappear. I’m really worried. What, according to you, might be the reason for this? Is there any remedy for this?

my son is 8 yrs old and his second top front teeth has a white staining on it can you advice

Saturday, April 18th, 2009
Q.
Hi i wonder if you can help me. My son is almost 8. About a year ago when his new back teeth came through his dentist told me they had imperfect enamal he sealed them but unfortunatly since then they have had to be filled. He has lost his two bottom front and two top front they have all grown perfectly apart from the second top front which is just peeking through the gum but it appears to have white staining on it. I am puzzled as to why this has happened and to why it’s just one tooth. I am concerned how it will appear when it is fully through and wonder what our options are and if this can be cosmetically remedied? thank you

I still have the brown edges after treatment at the NHS

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I used to be an nhs dental nurse some years ago and I take care of my teeth and gums. Every dental surgeon I assisted gave their patients’ teeth a full and comprehensive scale and polish as standard. I still receive nhs dental treatment but, since the new scale of charges was introduced a few years ago, neither of the dentists I’ve seen have done much on the scaling and polishing side, with the result that my 5 lower front teeth, for the first time in my life, have became stained. I visited my dentist last week, pointed out to him the stain trapped between my teeth, and told him that my son is getting married soon, so he scraped off the stain on the front surfaces, but not the stain trapped between the very tops of the teeth, and I still have the brown edges. I floss my teeth each day, and I neither smoke nor drink alcohol, strong tea or coffee and I don’t eat much spicy food. I’ve tried a polishing paste, but still the stain remains in between my teeth (my teeth do not overlap). I need something like an abrasive matrix strip to get between the teeth and get the stain off. Do you know of such a product and where I could obtain it? Sorry for the long explanation!

Stains on my filling causing discoloring

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
Q.
Hello. I am 27 years old and have had fillings placed on many of my front teeth. My specific question is about teeth numbers 8 and 9. I feel the feelings are old (5 years) and they have small discolorations. I don’t mind the discolorations, but I don’t trust them. They don’t look bad until I shine a light on them and it’s like the stains get five times bigger and glow. I’ve asked my dentist and he tells me they are just stains. If they are stains I don’t care, but all my cavities have started with discolorations. I had a cleaning recently and the hygenist didn’t mention these at all, even when I asked she just said she didn’t know. The one actaully has a very small brown groove I can catch my fingernail in. Should I get a second opinion? Also, on the one tooth, from what I can tell, the “stain” is surrounding the edge of the filling. I would hope that my dentist would understand my worry concerning cavities on these teeth, but I don’t know if he actually cares. And if you could, can you tell me if a previous composite resin has to be completely removed for a new one to be placed?

does sugar free soya milk cause decay to teeth

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009
Q.
Hello, I drink sugar free soya milk as I’m intolerant to cows milk but someone told me it’s really bad for teeth as it causes a lot of decay. Is this true? The type of soya milk I use is sugar free with added calcium. Also is herbal teas damaging to teeth? (eg peppermint tea) Thankyou

Is it possible to remove stains from white fillings

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009
Q.
Is it possible to remove stains from white fillings? I am thinking of saving to have the two white fillings I have replaced with porcelain inlays but in the meantime is there anything I can do to make them look better? They are a frightening shade of yellow only six months after I have had them done. Thank you very much for your time.
