Can i have a another crown fitted if the existing one comes away?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009
Q.
I am 26 years of age and have been fitted with a crown which i paid £750.00 on my front right tooth as after root canal treatment the tooth had darkened. I believe that the crown has a life of around 10 years. What are my options after this, can another crown be fitted if this one comes away? Or is an implant the only option?

After I had my new bridges the sensitivity didnt settle down advice

Thursday, July 30th, 2009
Q.
I lost a top tooth, fourth from front, due to infection four years ago. My dentist fitted a bridge to the next ajoining tooth which lasted three years and then decayed underneath. It kept falling out and in June my dentist removed it, used the remainder of the tooth, strengthened with metal pins and bridged from the my next tooth at the back. On July 6th I went to have my permanent bridge filled. The temporary had been fine but sensitive to cold, which I mentioned. The temp had to be drilled off and this was very uncomfortable in contact with cold, which I mentioned. When the new bridge was fitted it felt fine apart from sensitivity which I hoped would improve. It did not and became worse with my jaw and ear aching and so I returned to the dentist last week who gave me 400g ibuprofen and anti -biotics as he said there is now an infection in the root. He implied that is was my fault as I had not returned early enough, however I had explained about the sensitivity when it was being fitted and was told it would settle down. It had only been fitted two weeks before. I paid £1200 for this work and am very concerned about the resolution of this problem and that I may loose the tooth and bridge. I am also due to go on holiday in less than two weeks time and have lost faith in my dentist. Please advise.

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009
Q.
I had a slight gum infection that i treated with Oraldene, and it cleared up ok, but after a few weeks I had what i thought was just a loose filling, my dentist refilled it but now i am getting random shooting pains, that feel like an icicle being rammed into the same tooth/jaw,the dentist said at the time it may need root canal treatment but he didnt do any xrays. do you think this is correct in having Root canal Treatment?

Dentist removed the root of the heavily filled molar but still i have a pain any idea on the causes

Monday, July 27th, 2009
Q.
I have had intermittent pain in my upper teeth for some years. My Dentist and I could never clearly identify which tooth the pain came, whether it be from either a heavily filled molar tooth or a crown with a root filling. Last week the pain became constant, pulsting and throbbing.I visited a emergency dentist who removed the root of the heavily filled molar and put a temporay filling in.However four days post this ,the pain is as bad as ever. The emergency dentist took xrays that didn’t show any infection. Could the pain come from my crowned molar with the root filling in? The pain is getting me down but I am keen to hang on to my teeth. To compound the issue I am holiday at the moment so can not get to my regular dentist Any ideas on the cause. Thanks

How long should I wait after the dental root extraction before the implant could be inserted?

Friday, July 24th, 2009
Q.
How long should I wait after the dental root extraction before the implant could be inserted? I am a generally healthy 37 year old and the X-ray of the area was normal. Would a pregnancy be a contraindication for the procedure? Are Straumann implants a good choice? Thank you very much.

Will the root canal treatment affect the appearance of the veneers

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr, I hope you might be ale to give me some advice. I have veneers on my four front teeth. Unfortunately one of the very front ones has been painful ever since they were done and now my dentist tells me that I need a root canal treatment on this tooth. I am gutted as the veneers are beautiful and I’m worried not only about the appearance of the veneers being spoiled by the rct but also the possibility of the tooth not lasting as long as the others. In your experience, is it likely that a root canal done on a veneered tooth will look worse aesthetically afterwards eg. discoluration etc showing through the veneer? I am ever so concerned and would really appreciate your advice, thank you

Im now 42, when i was 13 i had 2 top front teeth knocked out by cricket ball. both false teeth are held in the gum by white gold bars. i now keep getting an absess in one of the root canals, and this is so painfull. all my dentist does is give me amoxicillin, which does not help much. is there anything else i could do as sometimes the pain brings me to tears? thanks

I am on immune suppressant drugs for arthrits will this affect the root canal treatments success

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi – I have recently, somehow, cracked the third tooth from the back, lower jaw and on my right hand side. My dentist has removed the filling that was already there and put in a dressing which has eased the pain. I have now to decide whether to opt for route canal treatment and a crown or complete extraction. He advises the former. However I am wondering if it’s possible to simply have the route treament and then re-fill the tooth (to cut down on expense)? Another complicating factor is that I am on immuno suppressant drugs for arthrits – methotrexate and infliximab infusions (anti TNF treatment) and I wonder if this might affect the chances of a successful outcome. Basically I don’t want to go ahead and pay a lot of money if the route canal treament might not succeed anyway. Also, the corresponding tooth on the other side is nearly all filling so I suspect this won’t last too much longer either. Would I be best off opting for a crown for the one on the right hand side as they are both quite large teeth and presumably life would be difficult without both of them!! Would appreciate some objective advice from you. Many thanks
