Hi there. I have veneers on my front two top teeth one of which needs replacing because it is leaking but my dentist has said the other will probably have to be done at the same time too. If I have one done on the NHS and one done privately will the two teeth look different?,

Is it usual to have to wait so long for a dental appointment?

Friday, June 11th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I am registered privately with a local dentist. 2 years ago, I asked about teeth whitening and paid for some moulds and gel. i was told that the gels would make my teeth very sensitive and as i was worried, I didn’t use them. The gels are now 12 months out of date so I contacted my dentist to purchase some more. I was told that I needed to book an appointment and I will have to wait until October. I asked if I could book in to see the hygenist and was told that I couldn’t without seeing my dentist first. I go on holiday in September and hoped I could have my teeth looked at by then. Firstly, is it usual to have to wait so long for an appointment, even if you are private? Secondly, what is the best treatment for whitening and thirdly, is it true that I can’t see a hygenist without first having seen a dentist? I appreciate my appoinment is non urgent and cosmetic, but surely dentists can do cosmetic work? Many Thanks.,

Why can a private dentist give me the treatment but the NHS can’t?

Friday, May 28th, 2010
Q.
My dentist says he has gone as far as he can on the root canal treatment on one of my back teeth. He says there is are about three parts of the nerve left about 5mm long. He has said a private clinic could do it but it could not be done on the NHS. Why can a private dentist appear to be able to do it ? The alternative is to have it out.,

Will I get more treatment time if I go private?

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010
Q.
Hi Rob, I have an appt for a root canal at your practice at Cadbury and am deciding whether to go for the nhs or private treatment. I am leaning towards the private treatment due to me wanting the highest possible chance of success. However, I have already been booked in for a 50 minute appt and wondered if with the private treatment you allow more time for the treatment? Also, am I likely to need a crown following this treatment as I need to factor in the cost of that too. Finally, what are the other differences between the treatments. I know they use different equipment. Do they both use rubber dams? The dentist has been brilliant so far so I have great confidence he will do the best he can with the equipment available. Thanks… Thanks…,

I have to have my crowns that were fitted by the NHS now fitted privately, is this right?

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010
Q.
Over 30 years ago I had posted full porcalin crowns fitted with root canal treatment (4). I need them replaced due to falling over and upsettign them over 2 years ago they have now gone out of line. My dentist originally said she would replace these and after attending a appointment for 1st fiitting said that the NHS do not do these anymore and I would have to go private. This seems so unfair they were originally fitted by the NHS . Is this true or is it the lab that they use.,

How much would the filling treatment cost if I went privately?

Friday, April 9th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I have a 9 year old son who has chipped his front tooth. My dentist said he can either do it on the NHS or if I go private he can spend more time polishing and matching the filling. Of course because my son is so upset I want to recieve the best job possible. What should I expect extra for going private? Will i be far less noticeable & durable? I can’t help feel that I’m being taken advantage of and that my son should get good dental care for free.,
