I have to have my crowns that were fitted by the NHS now fitted privately, is this right?

Q. Over 30 years ago I had posted full porcalin crowns fitted with root canal treatment (4). I need them replaced due to falling over and upsettign them over 2 years ago they have now gone out of line. My dentist originally said she would replace these and after attending a appointment for 1st fiitting said that the NHS do not do these anymore and I would have to go private. This seems so unfair they were originally fitted by the NHS . Is this true or is it the lab that they use.,
A. NHS crowns are available on the NHS if they are required for functional reasons. The problem is how you dispute the justification. Unfortunately how they were done before does not help the current problem. The private grade of crown is normally significantly more expensive to produce than an NHS crown. If You are not happy contact the practice urgently to discuss this through their complaints procedure before the crowns are made / fitted as it will be more difficult to change grade once the crowns have been made. All NHS contract holding practices must have a complaints procedure whuch includes information on what to do if you continue tofeel aggrieved. Rob
