My fang teeth overlap, what can I do about this?

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011
Q.

The ttooth either side of my two front teeth (Fang teeth ) have always slightly overlapped my front teeth and as a youngster I should have had a brace. I am now 45 and these fangs are now gradually twisting and lifting. My dentist says if it were removed, That the gap left would mean an implant that would be smaller than my actual teeth so would not be recommended. Any ideas

Should my son get implants or braces first?

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011
Q.

My son chipped his upper-left, front tooth in 1/2 at age 8 and chipped off most of the rest of it at age 16. At that time, the dentist removed the entire tooth, performed surgery to strengthen the area and I think removed nerves, and made him a fake tooth that goes in like a retainer (sorry, I’ve forgotten what this is called). Now that he is 17, we are now ready (financially) to meet with an Orthodontist about braces and an implant.

Which do you suggest happens first, the braces or the implant?

Thank you for your time.

Should I replace my Maryland bridge with implants?

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011
Q.

I am 34 years old and had maryland bridges fitted when I was 15 to replace the two teeth either side of my front teeth (thatnever appeared after my baby teeth fell out).

They are still there and have been very strong and good, but the metal is starting to show through and I have noticeable gaps around them now as my mouth has changed shape as I have got older and am increasingly self conscious of them.

Please can you advise my best options, should I replace them with maryland brisges again (or do they still have the metal bonds that would show through) or implants?

Also, my front teeth are crossed and I am keen to get them straightened. Please can you let me know if I can have a brace with bridges or if veneers would be more appropriate.

I have damaged my retainers, can I get them replaced?

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011
Q.

Dr Butt. I have damaged my bonded and plastic retainers ovewr time from ortho treatment but the orthodontic practice where I had the treatment are refusing to help fix them based on the grounds that I am discharged from their care. Will any other orthodontic practice be able to help although I wasn’t treated there? I’m freaking out as I don’t want my teeth moving and the orthodontist who straightened my teeth years back is now retiring. Thanks

I have been recommended treatment that would leave me with no back teeth, second opinion?

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011
Q.

In my upper teeth, I have a noticeable gap between my two front teeth, and I am missing both lateral incisors. I also have a twisted canine on my left side.
At the moment I have an option of having a brace on the NHS. However, I have been told by my dentist that I have no wisdom teeth coming through or 2nd molars. Also, I still have both 2nd molar baby teeth, with no premolars to come through.
I have been told by the dentist, if I have a brace they will remove my baby teeth, leaving me with more gaps. They will then move my teeth forward closing all the gaps, but leaving me with no teeth towards the back of my mouth where you chew. They won’t do anything else as it is classed as cosmetic surgery.
Can you advise me on what to do? If I was to go to a private practice, do you have any idea what they would do?
