Should my son get implants or braces first?
Q.
My son chipped his upper-left, front tooth in 1/2 at age 8 and chipped off most of the rest of it at age 16. At that time, the dentist removed the entire tooth, performed surgery to strengthen the area and I think removed nerves, and made him a fake tooth that goes in like a retainer (sorry, I’ve forgotten what this is called). Now that he is 17, we are now ready (financially) to meet with an Orthodontist about braces and an implant.

Which do you suggest happens first, the braces or the implant?
Thank you for your time.
A.
You need to see an orthodontist first. They should help manage the treatment and refer him for an implant once any straightening has been done. If the teeth are already aligned then he may be able to go straight to the implant.
