I have had separate assessments for Invisalign and Incognito lingual braces to correct an overlap of upper front teeth and misalignment of lower front teeth. Both assessments have come back saying that four teeth need to be extracted – one in each of the four ‘corners’ of the mouth – prior to fitting of the appliance in order for it to work. This seems rather drastic and I cannot imagine that the gaps left by the removal of such large teeth will be closed by the realigned teeth, although the orthodontist who did the Incognito assessment has said they there will be no gaps at the end of treatment (which could take up to 22 months). I’ve booked to have the extractions done next wek, but I’m really still not very happy about having perfectly healthly teeth removed for this purpose. Does it sound right that I have to take such drastic action to get the smile that I want? (I’m in my 40s).

I had braces when I was younger and the top retainer was removed soon after my braces were removed. Both my upper lateral incisors point inwards and this looks rather unsightly and I have been told that my roots are short and that further orthodontic treatment would not be adviseable.
Is there anything I can do to improve this?
My front teeth are crowded, is their a way of fixing them without orthodontics?
Tuesday, February 1st, 2011I have a very crowded set of front teeth, my front two are gappy and the spaces either side are not big enough to fit my ext two teeth so they are behind the front two, the rest are not too bad its just this, it does begin to hurt sometimes when i eat also, i started to have a brace as a child, this is the retainer to start off the process this led to my jaw clicking in and out of place everytime i ate and terrible nose pain, when i told this to my orthadontist she told me it was normall, i stopped wearing the brace, and now i am left like this, is there any way i could have this sorted without having to wear a brace?

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011Hi, I am an eighteen year old student. I just got braces about a month ago. My teeth are straight. I had to get the braces because I have still have baby canine in my upper teeth. They want to bring down the adult tooth. I have to get a gold chain on, the Expose and bond procedure, in about three weeks. I am really nervous about the surgery and how long it will take for the adult tooth to come down after the exposure. The big problem that worries me is that my adult tooth is horizontal – lucky me. How long will this take? And really how long will it take for my braces to be off? I have straight teeth which is upsetting. I thought I got to be one of the lucky ones that never had to get them. And never thought I would need them because of my straight teeth. But now I get them for my university years. Im really struggling with just having braces for 1 month. I really don’t like them. I have no confidence anymore and its hard for me to smile. Everyone says its worth it in the end, but to me this whole process is disheartening and stressful. I just really want to know if it will ultimately take three years to pull down my horizontal canine tooth and get the braces off.

I am 23 years old and in full time education, can I get braces on the NHS?

My question is in relation to orthodontic surgery.
I am currently 23 years old and in Full time education.
I had permanent braces fitted when i was a teenager and they were removed at the age of 15. I wore my retainer for the time scales my dentist advised. When i first had the braces fitted at 14 the dentist did not advise i needed to have any teeth removed, however I have had trouble with my wisdom teeth coming through and now my mouth feels over crowded.
Now 8 years later my top teeth have moved and my front 4 teeth had moved back to their original positions before having the braces!
I am really conscious of my smile, it’s not awful but i am aware of my teeth and have seen them looking better.
My main questions are – can i get braces again? And can adults only have invisylin? And what would the cost be? Being that i am a full time student will i get any benefit for this from the NHS or a discount? Your response would be much appreciated.
