Tuesday, March 15th, 2011
Q.

Hi, My Bridge fell out after the dentist need to drill through the back of the bridge for root tretment.Bridge is the frount three teeth. It is now 6 weeks later and this has not been fixed. She said she is waiting for NHS apoval. I said I would pay myself as I am going holiday now “next week” with this hugh space.I still have the bridge that came out but she will only place back in with temp bond paste and it back out after a few days, she also gets a bit cross when I keep going back to get the bridge stuck. Is there any thing I can do to stick this old brige to get me through my holiday,

Do you happen to know if dental students (or NHS) require anyone to practice fitting a full top jawbone of implants?

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.

Do you happen to know if dental students (or NHS) require anyone to practice fitting a full top jawbone of implants? I was a Police officer who lost most of my top jawbone teeth trying to break up a large fight (resulting from an assault) when a group turned on my colleague and me. I was fitted with a bridge, as I was unable to cope with a plate (I could not stop gagging, was unable to speak properly, and lost a serious amount of weight during that time). Many years later, I broke my back (representing my country in the high jump) and required to lay flat for over ten years (obviously in that time unable to have dental treatment).
Nowadays, I am at least on crutches (having had a spinal stimulator fitted, albeit a faulty one)but my back used to ‘go’ quite frequently and having fallen quite a few times my bridge got broken, not to mention all the cuts and bruises. I am utterly terrified of having a full denture and simply cannot afford to have any dental treatment (probably other than a plate) as I am on disability allowance; therefore, I have been attempting ‘home’ dentistry. One of the teeth that held one side of the bridge, I drilled into and fitted with a post (part of a metal coat hanger) whilst the other tooth I super glued but unfortunately I am required to redo them maybe once/twice a week. I know this is not good, not to mention the fumes when I have to use the glue (I can feel it filling my lungs).
All I want is to be able to eat reasonably and have a nice smile again. I am just so paranoid of people looking at my teeth I do not leave the house at all in case I have to speak or feel the need to smile (serious self-esteem issues).
Do you happen to know of anyone who would/could help me in any way?
I would be eternally grateful!
Best regards,

Whats the difference between fillings and crowns?

Thursday, March 10th, 2011
Q.

Hi been to the dentist today as I have lost part of a filling on one of my back teeth – dentist has said needs a crown but would cost £198 as nhs charge 3 for a silver colouredcrown or £150 for private white composite filling??? Bit baffled so took the private route as cheaper? Why crown and not filling on nhs? Also had to pay half now for appointment in a month??? I’ve paid for services not yet received??? I wouldn’t do this for any other service so feel slightly conned?

I have cracked my bridge, can I have it glued or should I get implants?

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011
Q.

Hi
I have bridge that spans 7 teeth, front lower jaw. I have had this since the age of 19 and I am now 45. I had to have this bridge as 4 second teeth that did not appear, so had milk teeth until the age of 19. I have just cracked my bridge in the centre and its feels a little loose. Can this be “glued” or mended, or will I have to have implants?. Back when I was 19 I was able to get this on the NHS as it was deemed to be medical rather than cosmetic. Is this still a possibility?, if not can you give be a rough cost per implant, abutment and crown.

Many thanks

Jenny

Can I have treatment for a sharp fang tooth?

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011
Q.

hi i have very prominant “fang” teeth at the front of my mouth. they catch on the inside of my lip and make them very sore as the teeth are quite sharp. i dont have to pay for nhs treatment at the moment. would i be able to get this done for free on the nhs or would i have to pay for a private dentist to do this sort of thing?
