Which would you recommend bridges or implant

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Caplan My 12 year old son has beautiful, straight teeth with no fillings. He’s missing his 2s (on both sides) his 3s have come through in their place. His ‘baby’ 3s are where the adult 3s should be and the orthodontist said the roots are long so he could have them well into his 20s. The orthodontist consultant has insisted leaving them all where they are and just filing the sharp ends off the adult 3s to make them look more like 2s, then using bridges or dentures if and when the baby 3s fall out. We’ve recently moved house, and our old dentist told us that the best final result would be to move the adult 3s where they were meant to be (using braces) with dentures maintaining the space the 2s would have occupied, then bridges or implants when he’s older. Which would you recommend? I’m concerned that my son will have to live with the outcome for the next 60 years and just want to make sure that the course of treatment we choose is the right one. The orthodontist was an NHS one with a long waiting list and a budget, I don’t trust that my son’s end result was his priority – but equally, I’m not a dentist and don’t know if I’m just being neurotic! Whilst I appreciate you can’t make a diagnosis, any advice would be very much appreciated. Kind regards,

Q.
Hi , can you help me with an enquiry, l have just broken my bridge, last time this was replaced paying £500 towards the cost on the NHS. My dentist now says l will not be able to have it done on the NHS due to cut backs. He has quoted me a figure of £2,700 to £3,200. For any normal working class family this is an impossible amount for me to find, is there anywhere l may be able to get this done at a lower price. l live in Sussex Thank you in advance for your time

I have chipped yellow teeth with thin enamel can I get veneers on nhs?

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
My teeth are jagged (from child hood grinding in my sleep)and also slightly yellowing. Futhermore, the front quarter of my tooth is now chipped. The enamel on my left front tooth is so thin on the bottom (see through) that it looks likley to do the same at some point. I have Cystic Fibrosis which means that I have had to eat a high calorie diet to sustain my weight from birth and I also take regular antibotics orally and via a nebuliser and inhalers which have not helped either. I also have severe vitimain D deficiancy which I am on medication for. My dentist is unsympathetic. Her latest attempt at covering my chip looks terrible and discoloured. In three years I have had the tooth filler/cover re-done four times already as it keeps coming off. It means that I not avoid certain foods such as apples for instance. Its starting to affect my confidence. Do you think I would be a suitable candiate for veeners and would I be able to get them on the nhs? I cant really afford them but at 26 I just want a solution that will protect my own teeth (especially the enamel) and that is strong and long lasting so that I can smile with confidence. Thank-you.

I still have the brown edges after treatment at the NHS

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I used to be an nhs dental nurse some years ago and I take care of my teeth and gums. Every dental surgeon I assisted gave their patients’ teeth a full and comprehensive scale and polish as standard. I still receive nhs dental treatment but, since the new scale of charges was introduced a few years ago, neither of the dentists I’ve seen have done much on the scaling and polishing side, with the result that my 5 lower front teeth, for the first time in my life, have became stained. I visited my dentist last week, pointed out to him the stain trapped between my teeth, and told him that my son is getting married soon, so he scraped off the stain on the front surfaces, but not the stain trapped between the very tops of the teeth, and I still have the brown edges. I floss my teeth each day, and I neither smoke nor drink alcohol, strong tea or coffee and I don’t eat much spicy food. I’ve tried a polishing paste, but still the stain remains in between my teeth (my teeth do not overlap). I need something like an abrasive matrix strip to get between the teeth and get the stain off. Do you know of such a product and where I could obtain it? Sorry for the long explanation!

I wish to have my teeth straight as normal.

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
Hi Mate, Im currently with free NHS dentists. i am currently at the age of 17. My bottom teeth are stragih howevery they are slightly yellow. How ever my major concern is the top teeth. everything is sort of straight how ever my canines (3rd from each side -middle) are big to fit in their gap and are overlapping the other teeth on each side of them. . I wish to have my teeth straight as normal. However my rubbish NHS dentists say i will have to remove 2 on my teeth and that is what i wish not to do. Please can you provide me with more information and the prices for the type of treatment i may need. Cheers

I need a filling for my bottom teeth which is chipped

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
Q.
I am 14 years of age. And my teeth are really good the way that they are set out but the straightness really upsets me and knocks my confidence big time. My top teeth are good its more my bottom one’s as between the two main ones there is a slight chip which i would like filling in so it goes away. And one of my teeth next to one of the main ones has a bit out of it and i would like that sorting out same goes for the tooth on the other side. Would this cost anything. Please get back to me. Thank you very much.
