Can A Missing Tooth Cause A Change To The Bite?

Wednesday, July 31st, 2013
Q.

Dr Butt, can a missing tooth cause a change to the bite? My right canine has been missing for 10 years but for the last 2 months my bite doesn’t feel right, I cannot chew properly and I fear the enamel on my molars is wearing. I wear a nightly Essix retainer to maintain the space and the denture in the day so I do not understand why this is happening. Should I consult my orthodontist about it as it is really worrying me? I’m not sure what I should do, I don’t know if this is truly happening and I just don’t understand why this is happening now when everything has been fine over the last 10 years. Can hormonal changes cause this? I’ve always taken care of my teeth, I just don’t understand. Thank you for any advice, many thanks again.

What Are The Treatment Options For Inverted Canines?

Friday, July 19th, 2013
Q.

Hi Andrew. I currently have a gap on the side of my teeth. the canine on my left side is inverted, so when I smile facing forward, it looks like im missing a whole tooth if you understand what I mean? Thus there is a gap. you cannot see the inverted canine until you look at me smile from the side. is there a solution to this? my canine is inverted inward, so it looks like i have a missing tooth, and it has prevented me from smiling for the past 10 years. I smile with my mouth close, and often it comes across as if i’m not being genuine which has hindered me being able to make friends properly, especially in the area I live. How much would it cost for me to have this fixed? and what are the procedures I can pay for?

Can You Give Me A Guideline For Implant Costs?

Wednesday, June 12th, 2013
Q.

Hi,

I have had a front tooth missing for about 12 years now, from an fall at university.

They tried to save it for me but it needed to be taken out, and ever since ive had a bridge with wings.

Over time the frequency of me needing to get my bridge re-cementing has increased.

I think its finally time to get an implant, but im totally blind to the costs.

I fear it could run into the £k’s having spoke to a dentist this morning as I understand you cant go through the NHS. I also need to pay £100 for the consultation. Is this normal ?

I would never have questioned it, but since I had laser eye surgery and understanding the price ranges/reductions/ haggling I was alarmed and I needed to………. I thought I best check with an expert for a guideline bracket.

Thanks

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013
Q.

Hi there, just a general question for you. I was wondering do you do free consultations to see what work I need done with my teeth? I have a tooth missing and I would like to know if I can have a crown fitted, also I am interested in veneers for my front teeth. My teeth have been a slight concern for a while now so now I have the money I’d like to think about my options with regards to getting my teeth looking healthy and fresh. Also how long does it take to get an appointment with yourselves? I would like an appointment as soon as possible to be honest. I look forward to your reply. Thank you.

Can I Still Wear Braces If I Have Fillings?

Wednesday, January 9th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr, Mark Hughes, i wanted to know if you can still wear braces even if i lack 1 molar teeth? and i already have an existing 4 fillings? And i am afraid that wearing braces may cause my fillings to break or get destroyed. I also have this tooth grinding dis order .. . i am really scared that its impossible to fix my teeth anymore. and I absolutely don’t want to have to wear dentures! They’re not for me and i dont think they hygienic. So i basically just want to know if its possible for me to still wear braces with the condition my teeth are in at the moment, and fix my dental problems? I really hope you can help me 🙂 I look forward to your response. thanks in advance 🙂

Dear Dr Moore, I have come across youre website. my teeth are in a pretty bad state, I have one tooth missing at the front also I havent been to the dentist in a long time, but by searching on the internet I came across this site. The thought of visiting a dentist is pretty scary, and I feel very ashamed of my appearance, im a 45 yr old male, but this has caused me so much loss of confidence over the years that it makes my life miserable in any sort of social situation or even with my family. I have limited funds but wondered if you knew of anyone who could help me? I have around 5k that I could spend on treatment. any advice wwuld be very much appreciated. thank you.

My daughter knocked her tooth out, is there anything we can do?

Monday, April 4th, 2011
Q.

I have atwo year old daughter who has just knocked out one of her upper front teeth. we have seen our dentidst who has said that there is nothing that can be done and asdditionally he feels that the adults toothe may not form properly or at all. I therefore have two questions:

1. Is there anything cosmetic we can do until my daughter’s adult teeth form?
2. If her adult teeth do not form then what cosmetic treatments would be available as she grows up ie. would we have to wait until she was a teenager or can we do things every couple of years from 6-12?
