I have an overbite and my dentist said i need a jaw surgery and how much would it cost?

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009
Q.
I have been told by my dentist that I would benefit from jaw surgery, as I have an overbite that braces didnt fix. However, I am currently unemployed and on jobseekers, although I start college soon and will be on benefits for that too. Will there be a cost required for any of those categories and if so, how much would it cost?

I have a deep overbite and crowding on my lower teeth can i get it jaw surgery in NHS

Friday, June 26th, 2009
Q.
Hi I am 24 and I am wondering if you can offer me some advice. I have a deep overbite and crowding of my lower teeth. My dentist said it is routine orthondonics and shouldn’t cost more than £3000 or under. She referred me to Birmingham dental hospital and I had an appointment there and was told the problem is not severe enough to get treatment under nhs. He also assured me it wouldn’t be too costly for private treatment. I had a consultation today at a Birmingham clinic and was told I am looking at at least £4500 and that it is very complex, she wanted to move my top teeth back to fix my overbite which I thought was quite strange as my bottom jaw needs moving out. My jaw clicks when I speak and eat and I constantly aches as I cannot close my mouth properly, I cannot afford £4500 and can’t believe this was not picked up on when I was a teenager. Do you know of anywhere that will treat me on nhs and is £4500 really, realistic? I have heard of people receiving treatment on the nhs when jaw surgery is needed.

Hi there When I was 17 I was referred to an orthodontist who advised that my lower jaw was slightly protuding and recommended jaw realignment surgery in order to straighten two teeth. I was keen to get this done, however my mum decided against it. That was over ten years ago and I would like to get this pursue this again as I unhappy with the appearance of my teeth. However is it now too late and would I get an NHS referral?

I am 22 and i need a minor correction for my lower jaw and also does brace improve lip profile

Saturday, June 20th, 2009
Q.
Hi dr Riten as you mentioned in your previous response to my query that Minor jaw corrections can be treated with orthodontic appliances although these are generally more effective when you are growing (between 13-17 years old). I am 22 year old and what is possibility and although from my appearnce it seems that only minor correction of lower jaw is needed. and also does braces make lips profile better? many thanx in advance and i am looking forward to hear from you.

my 14 year old daughter has an overbite would you advise jaw realignment surgery

Saturday, June 6th, 2009
Q.
My 14 year old daughter has just been told that she will need jaw realignment surgery, as the hape of her face will not enable her to have normal braces. her overbite is such that she can insert her finger between lower and upper teeth. she has inherited her dad’s massive nose, which is prominent and makes her embarrased and shy. she has difficulties eating and she dribbles as she cant close her mouth properly. i know without looking it is hard to make an assessment, but would you advise surgery?
