Ten years ago i was recommened jaw realignment surgery can i have the treatment now

Q. Hi there When I was 17 I was referred to an orthodontist who advised that my lower jaw was slightly protuding and recommended jaw realignment surgery in order to straighten two teeth. I was keen to get this done, however my mum decided against it. That was over ten years ago and I would like to get this pursue this again as I unhappy with the appearance of my teeth. However is it now too late and would I get an NHS referral?

A. I am sure it is not too late, but you would require an examination initially. It is very umlikely to get this form treatment on the NHS.

phil murray Says :

Hi, I had a very much protuding lower jaw which caused me great discomfort when I was young( more from my school teachers i may add who singled me out as a creature, fancy waking up to that in the morning) rather than most of my school mates. My mother also had the same,so i can only guess that it was in my genes to get it. When I was 17 I had an operation at wordsley hospital done by mr braide to correct it.My scars are still visible under my chin.I was wired up for weeks( I now hate complan) The 2nd day after my op my left scar started to drip. This lasted for about a week with a large clot forming.A pressure bandage helped. When i was back at work after the metal was cut off,I developed a bloof clot in my neck(again left side). To top it all by the time i was approx 20 ( ? long time ago) my lower jaw re grew, and my bottom teath are now over my top again.
To all considering this op.Beware the knife.Be happy for who you are. There is someone out there for you.All have their defects. No one is perfect.
Be at peace with yourself.
God Bless you, phil.
