I m 51,should I undergo jaw joint replacement operation?

Sunday, October 11th, 2009
Q.
I am due to have a jaw joint replacement op later this year. I am 51 years old and have undergone many surgeries mainly to my spine. For some reason this surgery scares me and I am feeling reluctant to go through with it. I know I can’t really go on in this much pain and have had many procedures done before being told this is the only way left. Can you reassure me please.

Ive an underbite is it possible to correct it in a jaw surgery?

Saturday, October 10th, 2009
Q.
Im 17 and I have a very prodruding jaw and can’t even smile because im so self concious, my face looks flat and my chin sticks out. I’ve tried to convince myself its not noticable but i have had a couple of people comment on it. I think i may have a very slight underbite but i can just make my top teeth go over the bottom one. Is it possible for me to get jaw surgery to correct it? It not purely costmetic because i do get an aching in my jaw as well. Would i be able to get this on the NHS? Or if i would have to pay how much would it cost?

Is my jaw pain unconnected to the maryland bridge?

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009
Q.
Hi, My upper right canine tooth grew in the wrong direction in my teens and as a result this and my upper right incisor had to be removed. I had a brace on my upper teeth for about 18 months and at 15 was fitted with a maryland bridge between my central incisor and 1st premolar. I was advised this would last for about 10 years and then would then need some sort of perminant replacement. I am now 25 and still have the maryland bridge. Unfortunately this has forced my bite out of line and causes me to grind and clentch my jaw creating swelling and pain in my temporomandibular joint. I have seen several different orthodontists who have recomendended differnt things – I was also saw a TMJ specialist who suggested an £800 head scan and wearing a splint at night, he also said my jaw pain had nothing to do with my teeth at all. Is my jaw pain unconnected to the maryland bridge? And if so would it be better to have the maryland bridge replaced with a more modern appliance or try and sort out the jaw problem first?

Concerns over jaw re-positioning

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009
Q.
Why do I have a weird profile? I wore braces on my lower set of teeth to correct overcrowding and had a central incisor removed to make room. The orthodontist didn’t put braces on top set even though the the tooth front teeth at the top were slightly bucked, they were pretty much perfectly straight. Now after having my braces removed I have pretty much got pefect teeth even though one has shifted back into it’s original position. My main concern is my profile from the side my chin smooths into my neck and I have a worse overbite my bottom and top set don’t line up when I look from the side the top teeth overlap the bottom ones

I have 4 tooth removed nd braces fixed but my jaw looks misaligned?

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009
Q.
Hello there,i was wondering if you could help me.When i was about 12 i had 4 larger teeth removed towards the back of my mouth.2 on the top and 2 on the bottom.I had these removed due to overcrowding.I then had fixed train track braces fitted on the top and bottom of my teeth.I had these fixed for about a year but i had them removed as i was getting constant headaches and we thought this might be causing the problem.Since having the teeth removed and the braces fitted my appearence has totally changed. My jaw is completely crooked which is totally noticeable, especially in photographs where i cannot stand to look at myself. My face itself has become alot longer and thinner and the the pallet in my mouth has caved in.Instead of being a nice u shape it is much more like a v shape and it feels as though i am biting on the side of my teeth. When i have seen my dentists they say that there is nothing wrong but this has being really bothering me for years and it is my crooked jaw that really upsets me and i am desperate to try and sort this out and have a straight face again. Please can you help me.Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.
