Hi,I also wanted to ask you about perio protect, can you get it on the NHS?How much is it and do you think it could be the kind of treatment i need? Due to my age my dentist is concerned about my situation and as i have not been able to see a specialist yet(may take 1 month)I am worried.Three months ago i was diagnosed with gum disease and it seems my condition has deteriorated quickly.I am not sure who would be the most appropriate periodontist for me to visit(privately.)Hope to hear from you soon, thankyou

I have recessive gums, long wobbly teeth with gaps inbetween

Monday, March 23rd, 2009
Q.
I was diagnosed 2 years ago (2 years after the birth of my child) with receeding gums. I had the receeding gum at the lower front teeth cut away to stop more gum from pulling away from the teeth. I am now ‘long in the tooth’ My dental hygiene from diagnosis has been meticulous; I brush, floss, use interdental brushes and a tongue scraper and mouthwash. However, my gums are continuing to receed. There are small gaps forming between most teeth, especially the back molers. I also get a burning sensation in my mouth. I used to smoke on a social basis during my university days but I do not smoke now. My mother lost her teeth to pyrrhoea at the age of 29 after her first child and my sister lost a tooth to pyrroea during her first pregnancy. No roots are exposed as yet. My teeth do not wobble uncontrollably. However, when I eat and food gets trapped between the gaps, my teeth slightly move before I remove the debris with floss and they then settle down again. I have booked in with a specialist but I am worried. I am only 30 and I do not want dentures. My dentist said that I would eventually lose my teeth in my fifties, starting with the lower bottom teeth. I was shocked. What can be done about the gaps between the teeth and my long bottom front teeth? Can the recession be stopped? Your comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I am 64 and my gums are shrinking

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008
Q.
I am 64 and my gums are shrinking and I am noticing a gap which looks as if I have food stuck between my gum and my tooth – this is becoming embarrassing and I was wondering if there was a procedure to correct this – or like the aching joints something I have to put up with! I don’t have any dentures. thank you for your help.

Hi, I am a 49 year old smoker who now lives in France, however I am about to be back in the UK for a month, my front teeth seem to be spreading apart from the 2nd ant both sides (not the centre) is there any way I can get them put back together or the gaps filled as it is now becomming quite unsightly and looks like I have a tooth loss either side of the front two, my teeth are straight otherwise.

Since losing my partner to cancer I have no confidence

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008
Q.
Since losing my partner to cancer I have no confidence. I have always hated my teeth, but now I’m obsessed. My dentist tells me, even with lottery money, nothing could be done due to my bad gums. I recently had my teeth whitened in the states & already I’m a little happier, although a long way to go. Am i to accept my dentist advise Or is there something that could be done Please reply Fond regards
