I have large gaps between my teeth and I also have chipped teeth. Will dental implants work, and is treatment cheaper abroad?

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010
Q.
Hi there, I just have a few questions about cosmetic dentistry – I have been curious for a while now and would like to find out more about what you could do for me. First of all, my mother never got me into the routine of going to the dentist so as you can imagine my teeth have not been well looked after and this shows. I am pretty sure I would need a selection of teeth taking out so I was wondering how much it usually is to get dental implants? If you could tell me the general price for individual implants and the whole set that would be great. Also, I am only 18 (19 in a few months) – am I too young for this or is age not an issue? Secondly, I have quite gappy teeth which makes me paranoid to smile. Is there anything that can be done to close these ggaps? I also have chipped/mis-shaped teeth.. what can be done to improve the appearance of these? And again, what are the prices for all of the above? How much cheaper are the treatments abroad and do they use the same procedures as here in the UK? Thank you very much for your time. I would be very grateful if you could get back to. I want a beautiful smile!!,

Is it normal to be missing the teeth like this?

Friday, August 27th, 2010
Q.
I’ve just come back from my dentist after a chech up – my old dentist has switched to private and so it was a new person that I saw. He asked how long ago I had my bottom lateral teeth removed? I told him I’ve never had any teeth removed and then he said perhaps they just didn’t grow. He showed me a picture of a set of teeth that had four teeth in the middle with the canines either side and pointed out in a mirror that I’m missing two. I do have two gaps of 3 or 4 millimeters but definately not enough space to put two teeth into. I have all 4 top teeth between the canines. Is in normal to be missing teeth like this, no other dentist has mentioned it before.,

Is it possible that the treatment I want will actually work?

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010
Q.
Doctor, I have a what you call a ‘complete overbite’. Dentists tried to correct my top inward pointing teeth with a bridge when I was in school (I’m now 44). Obviously, way back then the technology that exists today wasn’t around, and I suffered painfully wearing this awful thing for absolutely nothing! I recently consulted an orthdontist who does porcelain veneers which are glued to your own teeth to correct my smile as I’ve always been very conscious of my uneven, inward pointing, gappy teeth. (My front teeth have roots at an angle so normal veneers were not an option I found out) He showed me how it cud look, and also said that he cud alleviate my problem caused to my lower gum when my top teeth bite deep into it, by making my bite stop just above the bottom gum line. This sounds all too good to be true for me as I never thought there was a solution for my particular case. Is this possible?,

Can anything be done to address my gapped and protruding teeth?

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010
Q.
I am 55 and have gappy protruding teeth. My two front upper teeth are capped and were made larger then the originals and I have a missing tooth on each upper side after the ‘incisors’ they were extracted to fit a brace when I was thirteen. Until I had one of my front teeth replaced with an implanted cap? that is too protruding and large my confidence has waned. Can anything be done,

My dental bridge has gaps in it and is leaking, what should I do?

Friday, August 6th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr Riten I hope you can help me. I have had a six bridge which includes crowns in the top front of my mouth for the last 25 yrs. recently there have been gaps between the tooth and gum on one or 2 teeth. My dentist has filled the gaps, but says that i need a new bridge as it is leaking. Can he not just take this bridge out and re cement it in again. I’m very confused and think i need a second opinion and the cost is working out quiet expensive. I look forward to hearing from you. ,

Is my dentists charging me for work that I might not need or may not even be right for me?

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010
Q.
Hi – I want to my NHS dentist this morning in Essex, and I am a little concerned on something. Two years ago, I had a dental implant (front tooth) and recently it is chipping away around the sides and looking a little gappy. Firstly, he did not remember it was him that put the actual implant in. Secondly, I did not realise this until now, but he has booked me in to come back for a crown on this tooth. Is this normal, or would he think that it is only a crown on the tooth rather than implant? Thirdly, I obv paid for this already, when it was originally done. He is charging me again, is this right? Many thanks if you can help, because I am concerned about paying all the money again and not getting a proper job done.,
