I lost most of my teeth before I was 11 due to gum disease, mal-nourishment and neglect from my parents and have been wearing dentures since I was 12 years old. I’m now 56 and have very low confidence & self esteem. I have suffered much bullying, abuse and long-term trauma and people tend not to look at me when I speak to them, but tend to look away. Three years ago I was recommended to a dentist in Watford to get advice on implants, but I was so shocked at the cost – I knew I wasn’t going be able to afford it. The dentist was quick to recommend dentures I’ve never heard about and he convinced me that these would give me a beautiful confident smile so I agreed and was made some metal dentures which have caused me no end of problems since. But every time I’ve gone back the dentist just ignores me and will not sort out the issues with the metal dentures, which are painful and quite unsightly. I’ve spent thousands of pounds on dentures, but I’ve never met a dentist with compassion or has tried to give me a reasonable smile. Is there anyone who can help me please? Thank you.

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014Hello Dr Hughes. I would like to have my front teeth straightened they seem to have moved with age. I had them straightened in my thirties the normal way with the metal ones and had superb results, yet 20 years on they have moved and I’m very self-conscious of them. My problem is that I’ve had some teeth removed at the back due to no fault of my own so I think this has caused them to move. So I may need a denture or something to stop them moving in the future. I’m sure this will be very expensive so I’d like to know if there are payment plans available at all?

Tuesday, August 26th, 2014Hello Dr Gambroudes, I need some advice regarding what to do with my teeth please. I have two crowns at the top front that need replacing and these are next to the top right tooth which has broke off & the one on the other side is decayed. I have teeth that are decayed and I have many amalgam fillings some quite deep. I will need dentures or implants on the bottom back of my mouth to help me to chew now I’ve lost the ones there. On the top I am either going to need implants and bridges or just bridges. I’m not sure what will be the best to done. What do you believe to be the best?

Tuesday, August 12th, 2014Hi there. I have just been to my dentist and had one of my crowns re-fixed yet again, probably for the sixth time. I was told that the dentist that originally fixed the crown, didn’t check that the post was long enough and that’s why it falls out on occasions. Next to the crown is a bridge that is fixed to a now cracked tooth so it wobbles, the bridge has wobbled for about 10 years only coming out once. I asked the dentist this morning what it if comes out again, they said that they won’t cement it in again and I would have to have a denture, which fills me full of dread. I am a pensioner and don’t have a large income and wondered if there would be an alternative on the NHS, or how much would it cost to have implants for 3/4 teeth? My own teeth are shrinking so next to the crown it’s considerably smaller.

Thursday, May 8th, 2014 Hello Dr Moore. I am the mother of 4 boys and I am 47 years old. I have extreme dental phobia. I haven’t been to a dentist for more than 15 years! Now my mouth is really in a pitiful condition. I am planning to visit a dentist now as I have lost my smile and being a teaching assistant I feel that it is an important tool to communicate with children.
I have a question: Most of my teeth are broken up to the gum-line. After 4/5 years my gum is now closed and the root I assume must be inside. I have never had any infection/ pain or abscess. Do you think I will need a surgical extraction? I wish I could get my smile back as I am willing to extract all of my teeth and get dentures.

Wednesday, January 15th, 2014I had dental bridge with on 3 teeth in my upper front. I have had this for about 10 years without any problem but today I went to bite into an apple and the bridge broke. My dentist said I can’t have another bridge and that I need to have dentures but he didn’t explain anything to me. I would like to know what kind of dentures I would be getting? All he said to me is not worry and that he would make sure they will look good. Now I’m not sure if I have to take them out every day or can I keep them all the time without taking them. Will it effect me when I eat or talk? Will you be able to answer my questions?
I Have A Metal Denture With Lots Of Discomfort, Would A Flexible Denture Be Kinder To My Gums?

I have 10 teeth at the top of my mouth on a metal denture with lots of discomfort, it’s held in place by metal clasps on one side only has there are no teeth on the left. Oral thrush and mouth ulcers are part of my every day life. I have seen my dentist who thinks a new plate would be beneficial. Well I tend to agree that getting rid of the metal would be good as having a plastic replacement seems silly as this one was a replacement for my last plastic denture. Would a flexible denture be better and kinder on my gums and if so is it possible to hold it in place with no support on the left side? And what is the cost of these dentures.? Thank you.

i would like to ask your opinion on my situation, my dentist says i need all of my teeth removed and to have dentures. i am only 24, my dentist says that i should go to a hospital for the treatment as i have dental phobia. i have had treatment under concious sedation which didn’t work and the dentist wouldn’t treat me. my dentist will not refer me to kings because he says its out of his area, and kings wont take me without a referral. i am in pain with my teeth and struggling to eat, i now have a huge abscess which has returned for the second time. i am just going round and round in circles and feel like i am just being sent away. can you advise me as to what to do.
