Does my dentist have a duty to treat me as I am a registered NHS patient?

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010
Q.
Hello Dr Moore, I was wondering if you could answer a straight forward question for me. I am registered as an NHS patient with my dentist, 48 hrs ago a filling came out, exposing a hole and is causing some pain. I am going away on the 15th,and my dentist wont treat me before I go away unless I pay him privately, does he not have a duty to treat me and get me out of pain as I am a regisered nhs patient?,

Are there any alternative options available when not being able to see a dentist?

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr Caplan I’ve always had GREAT teeth never had problems until recently – my molar top left and one of my bottom teeth just started breaking into little pieces the broken tooth is soft and yellow, i’ve noticed that my front tooth is also starting to discolor. I need to know what i can do about this as i don’t have medical aid and don’t earn enough money YET to go to a Dentist – are there any “home” remedies or alternitive options ?? Thanks Tana,
A.

My daughter’s adult teeth aren’t coming through yet, should I be concerned about this?

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010
Q.
My daughter lost her first baby teeth at 4.5 years old. None of her adult teeth have replaced them very quickly. She lost her two front baby teeth two years ago. One adult one has grown fine, but the other one took a year before it started to come through and then stopped growing! It is about half the size of her other adult tooth. I have mentioned it to two dentists who do not seem overly concerned, but it doesn’t feel right!! She has lost both teeth either side (some time ago) and no signs of them growing either. Am I worrying for nothing or should I seek a third opinion? thanks,

I am experiencing an ache in my lower front teeth, any idea why?

Monday, July 5th, 2010
Q.
I am experiencing an ache in my lower front teeth – very difficult to pinpoint the exact pain. It is not painful to place pressure on the teeth. It is an ache that comes and goes. I am not sensitive to hot or cold items. Any thoughts?,

Hi, I am terrified to go to the dentist and am ashamed to say it’s about 40 years since I’ve visited one. I had a lot of my top teeth removed and most of the others have rotted away.I am desperate to get “a smile” but would be ashamed to even open my mouth to any dentist. I don’t know what to do.,
