is it best to replant a knocked out tooth?

Thursday, June 24th, 2010
Q.
I have a two part question. To begin with, my son, 11 years old, knocked out three front teeth in a scooter accident. The teeth were reimplanted. First question, if a tooth gets knocked out again is it best to put it in milk, save-a-tooth, or replant it. Second, who do we contact after regular dental hours if this should occur again?,

Can you regrow tooth enamel?

Thursday, June 24th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr Patel, I don’t want to take up much of your time, as I have already done some research in this area. Having had bulimia for many years I’ve worn away some enamel and am very worried about the overall state if my teeth. It’s a very expensive solution I am aware of that. But would much prefer composite veneers if anything, as I do not want my teeth filed for porcelain veneers, I’ve heard terrible stories. I would never have that done. I have heard of something where they can regrow enamel by applying something to the tooth. Can you comment? Do you know anything about this? I am determined to try to find a fix. I had once ‘beautiful & perfect’ teeth, with many many comments on how nice they were from friends and also my dentists! Now I’m concious of them. It’s down to an injury and as a result I’ve been grinding my teeth out of frustration from not being able to exercise and chewing sweets and crunching things I know are bad for my teeth. I’ve lost a lot of bulk from the appearance of them. Need a bit of help and/or advice if poss…?,

Is there a list of ethically priced dental surgeons across the country?

Thursday, June 24th, 2010
Q.
Hi, So many people do not go to the dentist because they cannot afford to go. Crowns cost from £200 to £2000.Mostly in Surrey it is the upper end. Is the industry regulated. Surely if a dentist wants £2000 he/she should be highly qualified, with years of exp and using the best products. If the dentists did not charge so much they would have more clients. Going back to crowns costing £2000 ,that fall out should the client not have a guarantee that the work reflects the price. I think people may be worried about asking questions because they are embarrased to ask but if treatment is so expensive surely they have a right to ask what they are paying for especially when an implant, which must be far more involved can cost the same from what I have read on this website. Are all dentists NHS trained, how long do they work for the NHS before they can charge the public privately. From what I have seen it really is about business and what that business can squeeze out of a patient. It would be good to see dentists promoting dental care and prices that are affordable so the nation has good dental care. I rarely go to the dentist myself ,treatment I have had has been done badly, so I have been advised by my last dentist who sadly retired. I used to work at a dental surgery and do not like what I saw , i am aware of many people needing treatment who cannot afford it. One friend is in pain right now but the dentist said she needs a crown at £2000 and will not treat the tooth unless she has the crown. Lots of questions I know your name just popped up first. Is there a list of good, and ethically priced dental surgeons across the country. Thank You.,

I have an infection in my root after root canal treatment, what are my options?

Friday, June 18th, 2010
Q.
I had a root canal 2 years ago after an injury, but the dentist did manage to remove all the root and it become infected, and it took two further attempts to remove the root. I changed dentist after this, as I didnt feel confident with this particular surgeon. I later had further infection and was treated with antibiotics, and my new dentists suggested I go back to my original dentist, which I wan’t happy to do. I have pain and sensitivity when I have hot or cold drinks and try and bite into things. I have had further antibiotics but nothing has helped. What are my options?,

Can my dental bridge me reduced in size?

Friday, June 18th, 2010
Q.
I have just had a bridge fitted to replace a missing front tooth. This was removed by my dentist and I was given a badly made, poorly fitting denture (without any real consultation). I couldn’t live with either the appearance of feel of this and the dentist then fitted a bridge. Unfortunately, the ‘teeth’ are too long and protrude. Can the bridge be reduced in size or is a new bridge required. I am at the end of my tether with my current dentist and would appreciate some advice I can trust.,
