What treatment can I have to improve my smile?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010
Q.
Hi, please help! I am 25 years old, and all my life I have had very poor teeth. I had an operation when I was 4yrs old and the anaesthetic, combined with the fact that my Dad had an enamel defficiency led me to have brown lines across my front teeth and all of the others slowly rotting away ever since I can remember. I had veneers put onto my front teeth when I was about 16 so they are not a huge issue, but the rest of them are terrible. I have had 3 extractions so far, and have several very heavy fillings and my teeth are crooked and squashed up. I have considered having a full set of dentures just to eleviate my pain and constant embarassment of having ugly teeth, plus limiting the huge amount of cost I would have to pay to have my teeth constantly repaired. All I want is to smile and laugh without having to put my hand over my mouth.,

Why is veneer already stained only a week after getting it?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010
Q.
I had a composite veneer on a front tooth a few weeks ago which has a slight small brown stain appearing on the bottom already. I have cut out tea, coffee and red wine but have used Corsodyl mouthwash for gum problems which I understand can stain the teeth. I use Sensodine toothpaste for my teeth but believe this is not suitable for my composite bonded tooth. Should I be using two different toothpastes?,

What can be done for tooth fangs due to teeth grinding?

Monday, February 15th, 2010
Q.
Hi. I am thirty years old. I have been grinding my teeth in my sleep for most of my adult life. I now wear a gum guard to prevent any further damage. The only trouble is my two front top teeth look more like fangs now and are really thin at the ends. these two teeth are also over crowded and turn into each other. I would love veneers but I am worried about damaging them because of my habbit. Please help. Thanks.,

Is estaimted cost of veneers by dentist reasonable?

Monday, February 15th, 2010
Q.
Hi. I have stained teeth from antibiotics when I was little. As I have got older I am more aware that my teeth are stained. I have been quoted £395 for porcelain veneer & £95 for composite veneer per tooth. Are composite veneers ok? Is this a good price? I have a bridge on my front teeth so will this be replaced with veneers or will I need a new bridge too?,

Veneered teeth are sensitive but should I wait to see if it fades?

Monday, February 15th, 2010
Q.
Two weeks ago I had a composite veneer on my left front tooth due to it being further back that the other. This was built up to match up with the right front tooth and I am pleased with the result. My problem since then is that the gum line has ached ever since. Some days I can’t feel it and think it’s gone then it comes back, it’s not painful enough to take any medication for it, more annoying. I have receding gums which are sensitive and bleed sometimes along with sensitive teeth where the root is exposed (I had my gums trimmed back many many years ago for this problem) for which I use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth. This had kept the problem in check most of the time but my veneered tooth is now sensitive to cold/sweet things more than it has been. I understand that treatment can put the nerves on edge and to allow 4 – 6 weeks for it to die down. Should I wait for that time to pass or phone my dentist to go back in case it is a problem with the dentine or pulp which has been disturbed. Many thanks for any help.,

I have always had good teeth (maybe 2 fillings); however, I grind my teeth and now, at 50, have chipped both front teeth to the point that they are unsightly. Is there something I can do that is reasonably priced? and permananet?,

I am going to have veneers but will they need to be replace in the future?

Friday, February 12th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr Patel I a 30 years old and I have decided to have veneers fitted on my 6 front teeth, due to severe wear and acid erosion which have affected my smile. My dentist told me I will need so called taco shell veneers as there is extensive wear on the back of my front teeth as well. I trust my dentist but I am concerned about the fact that he is going to have to file down my teeth even more now. My smile isn’t great but the teeth are still more or less intact at present. Am I making a mistake? I understand veneers have a life time of 5-10 years. Given that I am only 30 years old, is it possible to repeat the procedure again in the future or would I have to resort to crowns, once the veneers have reached their life span? I am concerned about the fact that I might have a mouth full of crowns by the time I am 40 or so. Many thanks in advance for your opinion.,

Am I correct to say that Enlighten did not whiten all teeth?

Friday, February 12th, 2010
Q.
I have used the Enlighten whitening system for two weeks at home and have had the hour in surgery boosts but have found that half of each tooth has whitened at the other half (nearest the gum) has not. My dentist told me there was no difference but I insisted that there was and have been given another syringe and been told to continue treatment for another two weeks. Is it safe to continue? Would you have expected better results? What do I say if it doesn’t work again? Many thanks,

Can I get braces wihout the use of train track braces?

Friday, February 12th, 2010
Q.
Im almost 21years old and my top front 4 teeth stick out further than the rest. MY dentist told me that I could have braces when I was younger but said it would be purely for cosmetic reasons and would be quite painful. For that reason I never had them, something I deeply regret. Is there any way of making my teeth look ‘normal’ without the train track braces as I feel im too old for them now and it would not suit for my line of work. I would really be greatful for your response. Many thanks.,
