I was not sufficiently sedated and was aware of the entire procedure

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
Ive just been to the dental hospital as i need to be sedated to get treatment, as i take panic attacks when i enter a dentist. My first visit went great and had one side of my mouth done. Today i went for my 2nd visit to get the other side done, which entailed 3 teeth out and 4 fillings and i had to get stitches also. When they gave me the sedation it never had an affect on me, i was aware of what they where saying and doing, i have a fear of needles and felt the 6 jags i received. In this time i started to panic and kept raising my hand as i could not speak due to my mouth being clamped, they kept telling me to put my hand down it would soon be over, but my heart was racing and i thought i was having a panic attack to continued to keep raising my hand for them to stop as i was not sedated, but they continued and kept putting my hand down. When they took me in the recovery room, i was upset and got straight off the bed as i was fine apart from shocked and scared, the dentist said he gave me the same amount of sedation as my last visit so it should have worked. But i explained why was i in obvious panic and aware of everything being said and going on and kept raising my hand to stop. But he gave no answer. Is this a correct procedure? as im more terrified than ever now and cant describe how horrific that experience was.

My dad has had very bad teeth, pain in the gums and is scared of the dentist

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
Hi Rob, I am in need of some advise. My dad has had very bad teeth since he hit his tooth and failed to get it looked at. Years have gone by and still he has very bad teeth, he hasn’t a fully grown tooth in his mouth most of them have either fallen out or have broken in half. He also has pain in his gums. The reason he hasn’t been to the dentist is because he has a fear of them and is very nervous about going. I am after your advise on weather he is able to be put under whist they work on his teeth? and also is it likely to cost a lot of money? Is he able to get it done on the NHS? Thank you very much for your time.

an you recommend any good dentists in Sheffield? what can I do about my phobia and do you think I may have to have my wisdom teeth out?

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
Q.
Hi there, wonder if you can help me…. Im 23 years old and ever since I went to a bad dentist in my late teens i have developed a huge fear of the dentist, so bad that im reduced to tears. Problem is I know i need work done to my teeth and fear the worst…..my bottom wisdom teeth have developed tiny holes and one upper wisdom tooth has pushed the other one at the side of it out although some of the tooth is still there. Also another tooth at the back is opened on one side…this tooth has a filing in it. I know possibly I may have to have my wisdom teeth removed but im so scared and heard so many horror stories that im petrified!! Im in no pain but my thinking is I dont want to leave it any longer incase I make things worse, my teeth have been like this now for a couple of years, i just want my back teeth to be like my front ones and they are ok and look fine an straight. Can you recommend any good dentists in Sheffield? what can I do about my phobia and do you think I may have to have my wisdom teeth out? Thanks
