Yesterday my 16 yr old son had his teeth whitened using the Zoom professional chairside whitening system., he had been in total agony every since, he is not given to complaining about pain. He knew to expect some discomfort., is this normal? he had the procedure repeated 3 times during the session, is this normal practice? He has since said, it was not worth the pain for the sake of white teeth following removal of his brace!

Teeth extracted for infection

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
Q.
Hi there- I had 2 teeth extracted today. I went in expecting to be prescribed antibiotics to get rid of the infection I have(which is causing my face to swell!) and he went ahead and extracted them. One of which was VERY painful. I was not prescribed any pain medication or antibiotics to take care of the infection. Should I see a 2nd dr?

My new crown, looks great but I can’t eat on it, so sensitive when I try to chew or bite into anything, the pain is so severe it’s unbearable

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
Q.
I have got clearstep braces which is costing quite a bit but because of this treatment I need to stay with the dentist I have however before my braces I had to undergo other necessary work, ie fillings in two back lower teeth and a crown on another back lower tooth which he claimed needed redoing. My new crown, looks great but I can’t eat on it, so sensitive when I try to chew or bite into anything, the pain is so severe it’s unbearable. My dentist says just use sensodyne toothpaste and it will be okay??? I have been doing this for six months now! On the other lower side (new fillings) I have had terrible toothache with swelling which he said was an abscess, gave me amoxicillin which did’nt get rid of it! I have now been told to go back after christmas! I am still in agony, my face is swollen and I am unable to eat and now looking forward to a very painful christmas. I don’t know what to do as I have so far spent thousands of pounds and don’t really want to go elsewhere, what can I do to ease the pain?

Tooth still aches after being treated and crowned again

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
Q.
I recently went to the dentist with toothache on both sides of my mouth. I was informed on either side I have decay below fillings. My dentist removed one filling on either upper side of my mouth, put some “medicine” in and temporarily filled them. I now have a crown on the left side with the right side due to be fitted in march. The crown was only fitted last week and already I have the same pain as before. Whilst the temporary filling was in I had no pain whatsoever. is this just wilst the tooth settles or is the crown sitting wrong? I am in agony and dentist away until monday? Help?

I dont have an income right now so it would be really hard to go see a dentist. could i get an infection from this? Is it life threatning if its not taken care of soon?

flap connecting upper lip and gum hurts

Saturday, March 28th, 2009
Q.
I have a little girl who is almost 5. She is complaining of her “teeth hurting” but points to the flap of skin directly above her two front teeth. It is the “flap” that connects from under the top lip to the top gum line above the teeth. Hers is very long and is obviously beginning to bother her. Is this something that a regular dentist can handle? How is this corrected/treated? Thank you!
