Is having root canal treatment part of the process of replacing a crown?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes,

I really need an advise and hopefully you would be willing to help.
I have a crown placed 16 years ago and now it has to be replaced. I went for a consultation and my dentist told me that before replacing the crown, he has to do the root canal treatment because what I have is not long enough, :-/ Is this a common process of replacing a crown?? I find his reason not convincing enough, please give me an advise what to do best, because I really need to replace my old crown the soonest, it’s starting to break little bit.
thanks.

Best regards,

My dental problems have caused my jaw to recede, what should I do?

Thursday, November 22nd, 2012
Q.

My situation:

I’m 27 and I have …
Crooked front teeth.
A fairly significantly inward leaning lower left canine.
Deep poorly drilled, poorly filled cavities on nearly all rear 8 molars.
An untreated cavity on my lower left premolar.
Have never had my wisdom teeth removed – but never had a dentist cite them as problematic.
My teeth are tightly packed with rear molars being pushed inward, and a front tooth being pushed outwards. Making my palette feel small.
The curve of my upper teeth on the left is different than on the right which curves in towards the middle of my mouth.
My teeth have not had a single position to bite or sit comfortably since I was 10.
I’ve gone through long bouts of discomfort and pain which I would call compactions, but have been brushed off by dentists when I’ve brought this up.

I’ve had many unpleasant dental experiences, including very unprofessional treatment from a Private dentist as an NHS patient when I was 16 which led to my parents cancelling me getting braces.

The state of my dental health has probably ruined my life, it plays a large part in causing depression that I end up trying to hide as much as I do my teeth. And I literally cannot take it anymore.

My question:
I feel that my dental problems have also caused my jaw to recede, and I’m scared of moving forward and be given an inappropriate dental only solution to what could be a larger problem.

Where do I go, who do I ask and how do I take the right cosmetic first step?

How would veneers affect my natural teeth?

Tuesday, November 20th, 2012
Q.

Hello,

I’m currently looking into veneers. How would this effect my natural teeth? Are they just glued on top of your natural teeth or do your teeth get filed down? Also, are they permanant and can you remove them? I would appreciate any help you can give me on this subject. Also, how much generally are they??

Thanks

Q.

Dear Dr Hughes,

I would love it if you could help me, I am making a moving picture and would like your input.

I have seen some of your pictures and am excited to move forward.

I am looking for a professional with experience to assist me with this.

The hand of an experienced dentist with ability and creativity is what is needed to get my creative juices flowing for this long-term project that has been in the pipe line for a few years.

I really can’t wait long and I am very receptive to your ideas. Do you have a portfolio I could have a look at? Can you send me a message to arrange a meeting with me? Thank you in advance.

Which veneers are best suited for thinning teeth problems?

Monday, September 3rd, 2012
Q.

Hello,

I am considering getting veneers. My teeth are thinning very rapidly despite of the fact that I really do take a good care of them and watch that I don’t eat too much acidic foods.
I maintain a very good oral hygiene routine too. Although my bottom teeth look good the top 4-6 not so good. So I’m not sure how many veneers minimum I should have and more importantly which ones are the best for me? I read a lot of information about the various types available, which makes me more and more confused.

There are so many types to choose from and I don’t know which would be best for me. I would appreciate your advice.
Thank you.

How do I know if I am being treated by a highly experienced cosmetic dentist?

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012
Q.

Hi there. Sorry to bother you but how can I found out abot the dentist I have chosen in central London, is there a list of dentists you can look up for quality etc? I was quite happy with who I’ve chosen but am now having reservations and have just read a daily mail article ( from 2008 granted) by a fashion editor who went to see someone in Linton who was supposed to be top notch and had done pop stars teeth but she ended up having a nightmare and not only left with poor quality veneers that fellmout after 6 weeks but is isn constant pain form the procedure? How can you judge your dentists? I am starting to panic now despite only wanting two from top veneers 745 per veneer (is this normal price?) can you possiblynassist in helping find out the reputation of my chided dentist as the article pointed out top London dentists who work on celebs are not always the best ? Kindest regards

I have a tooth inside my upper gum, should I get it removed?

Monday, August 6th, 2012
Q.

I have never been confident about my teeth, which results to me talking less and smiling without revealing my teeth. I find it hard to get along everyday life.

I have a tooth literally on my upper gum, it’s been there since I was about 10, is there any possible way I can get it removed? How much would it be? The tooth isn’t rotten or anything, it doesn’t hurt either, but it can be a bother sometimes.
Adding on “Hollywood” teeth straightening and whitening? How long will the process take? How much will everything cost together?

How do I find a credible cosmetic dentist?

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011
Q.

I have lost a small bit from my front tooth making it look jagged and the other is jagged too -and my current dentist had a go at fixing this previously which didnt work. He put something at the back of the tooth which felt ‘proud’ and eventually fell off.

I think I may need two veneers to get two good even front teeth. I am female and 62 – but working and need to look good. I am worried that my current Denplan dentist isnt up to it! How would I find out please if he is. I have read its down to the people who prepare the veneers too.

what should I do? I am really worried.
