I’m 18 And In Full Time Education, How Much Would It Cost To Have My Overlapping Teeth Corrected?

Thursday, May 2nd, 2013
Q.

HI. 🙂

I have near perfect teeth in that all of them are straight, but the curve of my jawline is stronger on one side of my mouth. Consequently, there is less of an overlap of my bite on that side. It also makes the teeth on that side appear bigger when I smile because they bulge out slightly more. It is not a very huge problem and I can chew fine. No one else notices it but what forms of correction could I get? I don’t think I require anything too drastic because as I said there is no pain and I can eat just fine. However, is there any chance of this small problem developing into something more serious? If possible, could you give me a cost range? I am 18 and in full time education and so I understand that NHS treatment will not be an option for me anymore.

Thank you for your help in advance!

My Tooth Was Almost Knocked Out Playing Hockey And After Treatment It Is Now Turning Black, Help?

Monday, March 11th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr. 3 weeks ago I was playing hockey and my front left tooth was knocked back and almost out with a hockey stick. I was real worried at the time obviously however I was assured it was okay. The dentist put the tooth back in and then braced it to the teeth surrounding it. It has been 3 weeks since the incident and the tooth is now turning black. I was told to keep the brace on for 5 weeks. What are my options as the other front tooth has started to move forward. I do not want a black tooth as I am a business student and I want to have a decent smile as I previously had 3 years of braces. What should I do to have the best smile?

I Am Dissatisfied With The Results From My Braces, How Much Will Veneers Cost?

Monday, March 11th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I have had gotten braces which I wore for two years but i’m still not happy with the results. They are better than they used to be but I do not think that they are anywhere near as straight as they could be. My two front teeth are not the same size and one is in front of the other. They are also in different lengths. Also the teeth which is in the back are slightly slanted so I am having trouble biting sometimes. I have gone to my local dentist and they have applied some kind of glue to elongate the shorter front tooth however it keeps on chipping. I would really like to get veneers on the top teeth. How much will it cost to get veneers one the single front tooth?

My Front Teeth Have A Natural Gap Which I Hate, What Can Be Done To Help?

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013
Q.

how much does it costs to fill the gap between my front teeth? its just a natural gap. i hate it! its becoming more wide as time goes by.. please do help! it used to be a small tiny space between now its become bigger! can there be anything i can do to fix it. like what sort of treatment is about for this situation? i have thought about stuff but am not up to date with procedures. also about braces, what are they mainly used for? can they help? i would like it if you can make recommendations because i now find it difficult to smile because i hate the gap. my two front are really nice but just without the gap! if i do use braces will i have to use them forever? this would cause me quite a lot of stress and i would rather avoid it do you know is there any permanent solution?

Is there any way I can have my teeth straightened without the use of braces?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

Hi Doctor Shaffie. Can you help? One of my teeth next to my right tooth is pushed back and the one next to it is higher and is pushed forward, what would i need to do to get a straight smile without having to have repetitive treatments? and how much will it cost?

this has been a problem for many years and need help but i do not want to have braces because as my teeth come out straight after time one of them is of coloured so they would look horrible. The issues are causing me to feel extremely self conscious and i need something doing about it right away.

After describing my symptoms, do you think I could be suffering from a TMJ condition?

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012
Q.

Dr Safeer Butt,

I think I may suffer from TMJ as my jaw is misaligned, at times the left side of my face becomes sore and warm and the my left jaw and cheekbone are higher and sharper on the left side and virtually invisible on the other. Now I’m not sure if that is just my “good side” for photos and the like or if this is caused by my teeth. As a result the tip of my nose and the bridge twists ever so slightly to the left and so my smile works imperfectly in relation to my nose and chin.

What would you recommend I do? I’m only 16 and I think these issues have arisen from improper wearing of braces, what do you think? It’s beginning to affect my confidence.Thank you for your time.

Can I qualify for free orthodontic treatment if I am in full time education at the age of 18?

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi Andrew, I wondered if you could help me? At the age of 14, I was told by my dentist that I would require orthodontic treatment to fix my out of shape mouth.
The orthodontics couldn’t offer me treatment for another 2 and a half years, so my parents paid £1,800 for me to have it done there and then to save the wait. I was meant to have them on for 18 months, but they got removed after about a year as apparently my treatment had finished. I wore my retainer for 6 months and all was fine.
I am now 18, going to be 19 in December, and my bottom teeth are all out of shape again, and I have a big overbite of my upper jaw. I am still in full time education, can I qualify for free treatment? Even though I’ve had it before, paid for it, and it was only a temporary fix?

Many Thanks

Our experienced orthodontic assistant is undermining our new Doctor, what should we do about it?

Friday, September 14th, 2012
Q.

Is it possible for an Orthodontist to put a power chain from the Upper 3’s-6;s on an initial 014 niti wire?.
We have a new Doctor and we have experienced Assistant. We work in a managed Orthodontist office. The assistant. has been claiming that she has never put a power chain on an 014 Niti, and so she refuses to. Is her experience more knowledgeable than our new Doctor? please tell me because this is a question that has been on my mind. What would be an Orthodontist reason for this type of procedure. Should the assistant be even questioning any Doctors treatment, as there is different methods that the Doctor will obviously use? Thank you.

I am about to turn 18, is there a way around the problem of age and cost in relation to receiving braces?

Tuesday, September 11th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I am 17 years old but turn 18 in 4 days, I have wanted braces for a while now but only recently has it come to my attention that I should really get braces as my teeth are affecting me everyday and is sometimes uncomfortable the way my teeth are arranged. I recently phoned up an orthodontist to make an appointment to see somebody, but they informed me that, because of my age, I have left it too late and would have to go privately, I’m in full time education and will not be able to afford to go private. I was just wondering if there is anyway that this particular orthodontist is wrong and there is actually a way of getting around the problem of age and cost?
If not do you know what other options are available to me?
Thank you for your time.

Is it right that I have to pay £1000 for a brace that is needed for just one tooth?

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I had some holes filled in my front teeth when I was 18 during which my dentist moved my tooth out of place when drilling my tooth was left in a slanted position and has been this way for the past 8 years my teeth no longer fit together and it wobbles slightly it also rubs on my bottom lip when I close my mouth, I have lost all my confidence I have seen many dentists and they say there is space for it to go back in position and I have been told it may cost £1000 + for just the one tooth to be straightened even though it was a dentist that put me in this position in the first place do I need full braces just for one tooth, I am currently unemployed due to my lack of confidence. thanks for your time.
