What Are My Options When It Comes To Closing The Gaps In My Teeth?

Thursday, February 27th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark, I just wanted to ask a question regarding the gaps between my teeth. My 4 front teeth on the top of my mouth seem way too small for my jaw and therefore there are gaps in between each tooth, which are very dominant. My 4 front teeth on my bottom row also seem to have minor gaps in between them. They’ve been like this ever since I was young, I am now 20 years old. I was just wondering what my options are when it comes to getting these gaps closed?

Thank you.

My Protruding Teeth Have Always Been Something That Have Caused Me To Have A Lack Of Confidence. How Would I Fix This?

Tuesday, February 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. My two upper canine teeth protrude quite a lot and have done since I was very young. I was wondering if this can be corrected and if so, how? There are large gaps behind the teeth but overcrowding means the gap isn’t big enough and as a result they stick out in front of my other teeth. Would they be removed or would a brace be the best option? I’m 35 years old and this is has always been something that caused me to have a lack of confidence. Thank you, I look forward to your reply.

I Would Like An Approximate Estimate Of What It Would Take To Straighten My Overcrowded Teeth?

Monday, February 24th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. My teeth are overcrowded which I feel is down to my wisdom teeth and my tooth right of my front teeth which protrudes greatly. It means that I take a bad photo when smiling. I want to have them fixed but would like to know an approx cost, as I know every patient is different. Please can you give me some information as I really do not know what I need but do and I do not want to get stung for something that is too expensive, many thanks.

My Wisdom Teeth Are Forcing My Teeth Out Of Shape. Should I Have Them Removed?

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes, I’m 19 years old, and I’ve had braces when I was 11 years old up until I was about 13. Now my wisdom teeth are coming through and my teeth are being forced together and slightly starting to form out of line and shape, which is making me rather paranoid, I’d love to get a brace or something that can re-line my teeth again but am unsure about how I go about this? Also do you advise waiting for the wisdom teeth to come through fully or seek to get them removed, as you can imagine I’m in a load of pain and can’t cope much longer!

Kind Regards.

My Incisors Are Bent And Displaced From Their Actual Position. What Treatment Could Fix This Problem For Me?

Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I wonder if you can help me. I am 18 years old. I have a problem that my two central incisors in the upper half are a little inwardly bent and the two lateral incisors (on both sides of the central incisors) are displaced from their actual position. They have shifted a little backwards in my mouth. I am not able to speak properly because of this and I would like ideas on what would be the best way to fix this problem? I also have a problem in my lower half. One of my canines is displaced backwards. Thank you for listening, I’m just after some information really.

I Had A Brace Fitted A Few Years But Now The Gap Is Coming Back Between My Front Teeth. Please Offer Some Advice?

Wednesday, October 30th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. The problem I would like advising on is that I had a brace fitted when I was younger about twelve years ago to fix big gaps in my teeth as I have three missing wisdom teeth which have never grown through. After braces I had a permanent brace fitted behind my teeth to keep teeth together but now the gap is coming back between my two front teeth. It looks horrible and you can see the wire between my two front teeth. It has made me very self conscious. Please could you advise me on what can be done? Do you know why this has happened? Thank you, I hope you can help me.

I Am Really Against Having To Wear Fixed Braces, Should I Get Implants Or Keep My Natural Teeth?

Monday, September 30th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I had orthodontic work in my teens/early 20’s to straighten my teeth. I wore fixed braces for 6 years and had 6 teeth taken out as part of the procedure. I also had a bottom jaw operation to bring my jaw forward as it was believed this was causing my top front teeth to protrude. I wore retainers (top and bottom) for a year afterwards as prescribed. 12 years on and my teeth are relapsing. As an unconfident mid 30’s single female, I am really against having to wear fixed braces (I’ve been told this is the only proper way to fix my problem by several orthodontics) for another 12 -18 months and am now at a point of desperation where I want to have my top 6 front teeth removed and implants put in their place for a quicker and permanent solution as I’m terrified my teeth could relapse AGAIN after having had the work redone. Is this possible or are Cosmetic Dentists against removing healthy teeth?

I Think I May Need Another Brace Fitted And I Wan’t To Know How Long It Will Take?

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013
Q.

Hello Mark, my problem is that I have been using braces back in India for proper alignment, yet I am not very satisfied with the work I received, I wonder if I need to have new braces fitted again to get proper alignment? If so how long will such treatment usually take? I’m asking as I’m leaving the UK soon and I’d like to know whether I’d have to stay longer if I got this treatment as I have also been using braces for about two years already. I hope you can help me with this. Thank You.

I Have One Protruding Tooth, What Can I Do To Get A Completely Straight Smile?

Wednesday, July 24th, 2013
Q.

Hi there Dr Moore. I am very unhappy with my front teeth at the moment as one of them is very wonky and sits on the top of my gum so it sticks out too. Also there isn’t enough room for a full tooth to go as this one had always overlapped with the other front tooth. I am happy with the rest of my teeth so I was wondering if it would be possible to remove the front tooth and replace with a bridge to give me straight smile? I know this seems a little brief so I can send you a picture if you didn’t understand? I would just like some advice regarding this matter, I don’t really know how to go about getting the tooth straightened out. I’m not a brace will be suitable, what do you think? Thank you for your time and advice.

I’ve Had Braces In For Over A Year Now And Nothing Seems To Have Changed, Is This Normal?

Monday, June 17th, 2013
Q.

Hi, please help I have braces and I have had them for just over a year. My orthodontist says I am not far off and should have around 5 months left, although I can see that there are just a few things left to do, every time my orthodontist makes a change (e.g re positions a bracket to move a tooth) if seems to affect a different tooth and so I end up with another tooth that’s moved that was fine before. Is this normal? I am so fed up. Every time I go back there’s always something else that needs adjusting. I really didn’t think the process would take so long as my teeth didn’t look so bad in the first place. I start university in September so would love to have them off by then but I can’t see it happening. Any advice would be great, thank you so much for your time. Kind regards.
