I’ve Never Been To The Dentist And I Have A Gap Between Front Teeth. Would I Need Braces Or A Dental Implant For This?

Thursday, September 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes, I would like your assistance. I have space between my teeth plus two teeth that never moved in line so it looks like I have a huge space there.
I need to know if I would need a dental implant for this or if I can fix my teeth just with braces? Also I have this broken tooth that looks really bad. I am very scared to see a dentist and have never been for a treatment earlier. I need to know how much time I can have all this fixed and how much will cost me? Thank you.

Hi. My Daughter’s Dental Intern Has Changed While She’s Having Orthodontic Correction. Could You Help?

Thursday, September 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark, could you tell me what causes relapse in orthodontically aligned teeth?  How does an incorrect mid-line in the lower set affect this? Please offer your advice regarding this as my daughter is undergoing treatment in a university dental college, and the doctor has asked me to search for the answer.  My daughter has had braces treatment for the last two years. The dentist who was working on her completed the course and left the college and now another intern has taken over. Any advice you can offer us would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I Have Protruding Teeth. Should I Opt For Braces Or Surgery To Fix This? Which Is The Most Effective?

Thursday, August 21st, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. At what price can I get surgery for my protruding teeth? And is this the best way to do it? Will it look natural after surgery? What would be the maximum cost for this treatment? I’m a 21 year old girl and my teeth are protruding.  I feel very bad when my friends kid me and tease me. I need the best suggestion from you for my problem? What would be better a surgery
or braces for my teeth? If I opt for the surgery, will it change the shape of my face? Thank you.

I Want To Know If I Can Have Braces Through Two Separate Orthodontists In Different Parts Of The World?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr. Riten, I am relocating to the UK from India in a couple of weeks. I am 25 years old and I need your advice on cosmetic dentistry.

My upper front teeth lie ahead of the lower front teeth. I wanted to get braces but heard the medical expenses in London are very steep.

So, I wanted your advice:
1. If I get the braces process started in India, will dentists in London take up the case and treat me?

2. What is the cost of getting braces in UK?

3. Anything else that you can suggest.

If needed, could I also send across my full mouth x-ray.

I look forward to your response.

Thanks.

I Have A Very Round Face With Wide Cheek Bones. Is This Possible To Correct With Braces Or Would I Need To Consider Surgery?

Monday, July 21st, 2014
Q.

Hello Doctor,

I am a 23 year old female. I have a very round face. Rather my face is wider near the cheek bones.
The width of my cheek bones is more than the width of my forehead and my jaw-line. As a result when I sleep on my side, my face just rests on my cheek bones causing it to hurt.

Is there a way to reduce the width of the area around my cheek bones? And at the same time make my face longer and slimmer.

Is any of these possible with braces? Or will I have to go through some sort of surgery.

How much money should I be expecting to spend for each?

Thank you for your time.

I Have Gaps Starting To Form On My Top Teeth. What Can I Get Other Than Braces To Fix This?

Tuesday, May 20th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I have gaps starting to form on my top teeth, these include between the front two (slightly) and beside each tooth on the opposite side of my front teeth. I am 17 and I want to know what I can get to help (apart from braces). I have seen on the internet that you can get bands to buy to reduce the gap in your teeth, but I want to know what other options are available for me to help the situation. This has only been the case for 4-5 months now. It would be great if you could help me with some advice about what I should consider doing. Thank you!

My Daughter’s Orthodontist Recommended That She Have Four Teeth Removed. Is This The Right Decision?

Monday, April 28th, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew. My 16 year old daughter has been referred to her orthodontist following a dental visit. She still has 5 baby teeth. X-ray has confirmed that she has adult teeth waiting to come down, all except one. The orthodontist has recommended she has the four baby teeth removed, two canines and the two either side. There is a tooth in the gum above one of the canines. To have four visible teeth extracted at this age will be so awful and we are in such a quandary as to whether or not we are making the right decision, please can you advise us. Many thanks.

Hello. I Would Like To Know How Long It Would Take To Open Up Roughly 4mm Of Space For Dental Implants To Be Placed?

Friday, April 4th, 2014
Q.

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me? When I was younger I had braces to open up a space. This space had to be opened up in order to compensate for my missing lateral incisors which had to be replaced with dental implants. Now I am 18 and have been told there is not enough space in the roots to place the actual dental implant and I have been advised to have even more orthodontic treatment, I am just wondering how long it would take to open up roughly 3/4mm of space for dental implants to be placed? Any response will be greatly received. Thank you.

My Gums Have Receded, Can I Have The Gum Put Back In. What Treatment Is This Called And Are There Any Alternatives?

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Patel,
Two questions I would like to ask please:
1. My gums have receded on my top teeth the four in the middle, I believe I can have the gum put back in, what is this called and any advice would be appreciated? 2. My daughter’s bottom teeth stick out over her top set. I got it checked out and her jaw line is fine. She has lost her two bottom teeth now and they are coming through, but I am sure she will need a brace or something to make sure the new top teeth coming through come over her bottom ones. She is nearly 6. Should I be making an appointment with orthodontist now?

I look forward to your reply. Kind regards.

What Alternatives Are There To A Bridge?

Monday, March 17th, 2014
Q.

Hi. When I was younger, it was discovered that I had no “adult teeth” growing under my bottom two centre milk teeth, so I had them removed. I had a brace fitted to close the gap and another brace on my top teeth to straighten and close gaps. Unfortunately, at the time, I didn’t regularly wear the retainer to keep them in place so now my teeth have come apart again. I had a bridge fitted to the gap at the bottom but the gums behind the supporting teeth seem to get swollen and sore regularly. What would you recommend as an alternative to the bridge, and more importantly the gaps and alignment at the top? I was thinking lingual braces at the top would be best for me but I have quite small teeth. Kind regards.
