Hello. I hope you are well.
I am 32 years old and I wore a brace for a year and now have a retainer on the top and bottom rows of my teeth. I have noticed that my bottom teeth are moving a little and going back to their original place – which was originally very crooked. This is really concerning me. I had white fillings to line them up so should I go back and get crowns on the bottom to stop the movement and make them look better or is it that I am not wearing the retainer often enough?
Id like to have really nice looking teeth. I had a crown on the front and whilst I was really happy, its colour appears to be less like the other teeth – which puts me back to square 1can you give me some advice please?

Monday, September 3rd, 2012Can braces close a 1cm gap?
Monday, September 3rd, 2012 Respected Sir,
Due to an injury in my early age,my right lateral incisor overlapped my right central incisor. The overlapped right central incisor did not have a root and so my dentist removed both the teeth. Now there is approx. 1 cm gap there and the dentist has put braces to bring the left central incisor to the right and cover the space. He will bring the left lateral incisor in place of the left c and putting a cap on that tooth so that it looks like a central incisor. And because my left canine is very high, it will come down.
Is this treatment right? By doing so the dentist wants to cover the space along with bringing the canine down! Can braces have the capability to cover 1cm gap?
Please answer and explain.
The brace I am using is not closing the gap in my upper teeth, would I be suitable for a dental implant instead?
Thursday, August 30th, 2012Hi. I am 16 years old and i will be 17 in october. Dental implants have been suggested for me due to the fact that my braces are not closing the gap between my upper left teeth.I start work in september, so braces are not really an option for me anymore. How many millimetres does the gap have to be to qualify for a dental implant? How much is a consultation and can you get them on the NHS? What circumstances do you have to be under to qualify for dental implants on the NHS? Do you think I’d qualify for them? Thanks for your help! 🙂
What types of implants are available and are they suitable for me?
Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012Hi, I have a few dental issues and don’t know what to do. Currently,
I am missing 7 teeth in total: all 4 wisdom teeth, both upper first molars and the left permanent incisor. I required braces because of this for 2 years when I was 15. I was then told to wait till I was 18 or 19 for my jaw to stop growing before getting an implant to replace my left incisor. During this time the roots of the teeth either side have begun to move towards each other. I went to have an implant but was told there was not enough space for the implant. I would just like to know what options I have? Also what implants are available now and do you think they’d be suitable for me? Thanks for any help
I stopped wearing my retainer and now my teeth have shifted to their original position, what can I do about this?
Thursday, August 16th, 2012Hi dr Hughes I wondered if you could help me with something? I had braces for about three years. When I got them off I was given a retainer to wear. i was told to wear it full time for a about six weeks and then only at night. However, I quit wearing it all together about six months ago and my teeth have shifted quite a bit. If I wear my retainer for a while will my teeth shift back into the way they should be? If my retainer won’t make any difference then what else can I do that isn’t too costly?
I had one of my premolars removed and now there is large gap forming between my two front teeth, what can I do to stop this?
Tuesday, July 17th, 2012 One week ago, I had a bicuspid extracted on my right side. Two days later I woke up to discover a fairly large gap had developed between my two front teeth. It has continued to widen each day. My dentist said that the only way to stop it from getting any bigger is for me to wear a retainer at night. If I want to close it permanently, he said I will need to wear braces.
Yesterday, I went back to have him look at a crown that had been put on a tooth that had root canal several years ago because it was loose. As he was trying to remove the crown, my tooth broke into three pieces and so THAT tooth also had to be extracted. Now, I am very worried about this gap in my teeth. Is there any way to close it up again without going into braces? I am almost 54 years old and have no periodontal disease. Thank you.

My filling constantly falls out, will this affect me having a brace fitted?
Tuesday, July 10th, 2012I have severely crooked teeth and what I think is a side bite if I remember rightly what a dentist told me about 10 years ago. I am 26 and as a teenager didn’t persist with my retainer brace. What I was told needed done was to widen my top palet 1st before being able to have braces fitted. As i say I didn’t see this through as a teenager due to feeling like the retainer affected my every day life/confidence/self esteem more than having crooked teeth. I wish I hadn’t been so silly back then. Anyway my problem now and question to you is this….I have had trouble with 2 back teeth (one either side) that started breaking and crumbling away after having my 2nd child, they have since been filled numerous times but one sides filling keeps falling out. Would this effect me trying to have a brace fitted now?

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012Hi, I’m 16 and I was offered metal braces under the NHS, but I turned them down as I wasn’t keen on the idea. I’ve been looking at the ‘invisible’ braces by invisalign and I’m really interested, but I was wondering approximately how much it would cost? My teeth arn’t severely crooked at all and I only just passed under the NHS requirements, there is just some crowding-it’s mainly for cosmetic reasons that I’m interested, I’d be so grateful if you could get back to me, thank you!
