Hi. My Question Is: Can I Get My Regular Dentist To Fit A Dental Implant?

April 1st, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Patel. I have a question for you. I have a front tooth that is missing and I really need to get this fixed. There’s another tooth that is also loose and that is about to come out as well. My question is: how much does screw a tooth cost and can a regular dentist do this? How does this work? What I mean is, do I need to have a certain problem other than a missing tooth? Also do you put a person to sleep for this or just use shots to numb the gum area to do the screw in tooth. Any other information you can provide me with would be great. Thank you.

My Young Son Plays Rugby And Is About To Get Braces. What’s The Best Way To Protect His Teeth?

April 1st, 2014
Q.

My son had one of his front teeth broken with a cricket bat when he was 9 (he has about half the tooth left). He had it filled to rebuild the tooth but has knocked it out or lost the filling 5 times since. He is now 12 and plays rugby. What is the best way to protect his teeth? Are there any mouth guards that have added protection for protecting already damaged teeth? Is there a long term solution that will make it stronger and at what age should that work be completed? He is due to be referred to the orthodontist to correct his ‘fangs’ in the next month.
Many thanks.

I No Longer Trust My Dentist. Do You Have Any Suggestions On How To Find A New One?

April 1st, 2014
Q.

I went for a dental cleaning and while I was under nitrous and the Dr. came in & showed me “close ups” of my teeth and told me that although they looked beautiful, that all the white fillings and crowns I had, from eye teeth back, had to be replaced. I needed 26 appointments or I could do it all in 1 shot under sedation which of course, I chose sedation since I had already explained to him my severe anxiety. 2 days later I questioned the necessity of this treatment plan and I was tag teamed by his sales team who made me feel even more nervous when they told me I was at risk of losing my teeth. I went through with it but thank God I only let him do one side. The temporaries were a disaster and I told his assistant that they were going to break if she didn’t get the bite correct but they broke 3 days later. The permanent crowns don’t touch each other (side to side), my upper teeth only meet my lower teeth at half of one crown with half of another along the whole span of entire right side of my mouth. I have pain in a tooth that previous to his work had no pain, they are yellow, short, they are flat (no contour what so ever). I have not had any dental work done for 3 years. I have asked him to fix them and had an orthodontist write him a letter as to the importance of restoring my bite. He keeps telling me I would need to pay for the sedation again. First of all, does any of this sound like the work of a “Cosmetic” dentist as he claims to be? Any suggestions on how to pick another dentist?

I Would Like To Have Inman Aligner Treatment But I’m Allergic To Nickel. Can I Have Them Without Nickel?

April 1st, 2014
Q.

Dear Dr Riten Patel,

I would like to straighten my front four lower teeth. Having researched all of the various options I have decided that I am most interested in the Inman Aligners as they offer quick results, are reasonably priced and are removable.
However, could you please tell me if the metal used is nickel, as I am allergic to it? If so, can they be made without nickel and would that add to the cost of the treatment?

What are my options please?

Many thanks in advance for your answer. I look forward to hearing your reply.

Will The NHS Pay For My Dental Implants?

March 31st, 2014
Q.

Hello there, wondering if you can help me out a little with a difficult problem. I have just had 2 top right back teeth out and 2 bottom right teeth took out and I was told buy my dentist that I cannot wear dentures as I suffer from very bad epilepsy. I have suffered from this all of my life and have been told that the denture route is unsafe in case I have a seizure and swallow or choke on them. Every time I have a seizure I am badly damaging my tongue too, ripping it really badly through the gaps which are now present in my mouth from the missing teeth. The only way I can think of resolving this situation is to get implants. Will the NHS pay for me to have implants in this case do you think?

I Would Like To Pay For Treatment On A Monthly Basis. Is This Possible?

March 28th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Patel. I am 25 years old and I have really bad crooked teeth an I am so desperate to have them done. I did have the chance when I was 16 to have them done but I was so scared and young it didn’t matter to me back then. I am older now and have realised what a bad mistake I made. I am really cautious and I never smile, it makes me feel down at times. I don’t have the cost to pay for it all at once, but I would be able to pay monthly. I would appreciate it if you could get back to me about paying monthly for my teeth to be done. Thank you.

I Have Porcelain Crowns And Veneers. I Would Like To Know If It’s Possible To Have Lingual Braces?

March 28th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark, I would like to know if it possible for me to have lingual braces? I have porcelain crowns with metal posts on my two front teeth and veneers on the two teeth either side.
I have a small upper arch and originally my upper front teeth were overlapped before they were replaced with crowns and posts. I have always wanted to have my teeth straightened but was put off by a dentist who did not want to offer me braces. I have since read on the internet that it is possible to have lingual braces on crowned teeth. I would like some advice on this if it’s possible. Thank you for your time.

My Teeth Have Relapsed After Braces Treatment. I’m Scared They Will Relapse Again Due To My Tongue Thrusting. What Can I Do?

March 28th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Patel,
I had a bad thumb sucking habit until I was 15. I am 22 now.

I had braces when I was 16 to correct my overbite but my gap never completely closed. My teeth relapsed a bit but are still not as bad as they were before the treatment.

However I am still not happy with my teeth and wanted braces again to pull my teeth down. I am scared that they will relapse due to my tongue thrusting. I normally swallow by pushing tongue forward behind my front to teeth or even touching my lower lip.

I have tried to find places that correct this or provide treatment but have been unsuccessful. I am based in the Midlands and would really appreciate help and guidance.

Thanks, I hope to hear from you in the near future.

What are my options as I don’t have a dentist and I currently have no employment? Thanks, I really want to get this sorted, I just want to know my options, if any, and also costs and any other information that is relevant to solving the issue, it seems as hard as I try to look after my teeth, it’s always too late and my confidence levels are dropping rapidly.
