My dentist told me I cannot have an implant because I smoke. Is this true?

Q. I have a front loose tooth that I think is ready for falling out (my dentist said today he cannot save it) I asked him about implants and he said he will not do it because I smoke. i asked him if I went to a cosmetic dentist and paid privately would they do it I was told no because I smoke. I am prepared to give up smoking with help from my Gp but he still said no-one will do it for me.,
A. Smoking is not an absolute contraindication for implant placement but can seriously compromise the success of the treatment. The issue may be that you have periodontal disease and that because of this you have lost too much bone in the implant site
