I was told that I require five fillings

Q. HI! I was at then dentist today and was told that I require five fillings, four amalgam at the back of my mouth and a composite filling at the front, I already have alot of Amalgam fillings and I have heard storys of the mercury from them leaking into your blood stream, are they harmful?? would I be better looking to get white fillings?? and get the amalgam ones i already got replaced?. Alot of my fillings are at the back of my mouth and I read that almagam are stronger than white fillings. Could you please advise. Thankyou.

A. Hi, many thanks for your enquiry, firstly yes mercury is contained in amalgam but there is no evidence to say amalgam fillings are harmful. secondly amalgam is a good material in certain circumstances but for large fillings at the back of the mouth is not one of them circumstances. my advice would be to seek out a cosmetic dentist in your area and have a consultation where he can advise of better long term options for your back teeth, ie porcelain inlays/onlay and white fillings and crowns if needed. hope this is helpful,

Hello I am a 52 year old Scottish woman with a history of bad dental treatment as a child. I now have three upper jaw implants on the right side, butcontinuing pain around those implants and a root canal beside a gap on theupper left. My dentist here says I need another implant beside the gap on the left but as it is close to a sinus, I also need bone augmentation. I have been having tooth by tooth treatment for 15 months and I have not been without pain in that time. Now my dentist tells me I may need another 12 months of this. I think I need another opinion and perhaps a complete mouth makeover t3Drather than a tooth by tooth treatment. Every time I have a toothseen to, I get pain somewhere else and need something else done. I would really like you to give me some idea of what three implants ( upper jaw ) including an extracton, and old amalgalm filling replacment/covers (five of them ) might cost. Plus an idea of how long the whole thing might take as Ionly visit the UK a fe w times a year now. I know it is a big ask in an Email, but I am a bit at a loss here. I am spending what I think is quite a lot of money on dental care that just leaves me in pain. I look forward to hearing from you Thanks

Hello, I am a 43 year old male and have recently stopped drinking heavily.During the time whilst drinking, I neglected my dental hygiene somewhat andam considering Smile Rejuvenation next year. I already have several; missing, crowned and damaged/decayed teeth. I would be grateful if you would give me some information on; what is involved in, and an estimated cost of, atypical procedure of this type. Many thanks.

could you give me an approximate cost of the All-on-4 system implants. i amcurrently working abroad but i am returning home approx end september andlooking for a dentist who can provide this system. i do have some remainingteeth in my upper jaw but they are in a very poor condition and need removing. I understand that you cannot give costs for some of the treatment i will require, but an indication of cost for the full arch on 4 implants wouldbe useful in assisting me to plan my treatment. i will be returning home to Yorkshire, but i am happy to travel anywhere to get the right treatment.please email your reply or any further questions. kind regards

Dear Sir/Madam. After having some check ups at my normal dentist I have some work that needs to be done but seem more trusting of your practice to do itwell. I was hoping you could let me know if possible the cost to have a filling replaced that has fallen out and also how much it would be to have a cracked wisdom tooth removed (top right) I was hoping to get an appointmentwith you fairly soon (after 5 if possible) I have a dental plan at work andwondered if you accept dental plan patients. I look forward to your reply

I am petrified of the dentist and haven’t been for many, many years. My teeth are in a shocking state – broken teeth at the back of my mouth – I am embarrassed to have let things get this bad and I feel that it is time to get to grips with this fear – I am sure that dentistry has moved on. My anxiety is also compounded by thinking about just how much it might cost to sortthis out. Can you help me? Regards

Hello, I would like to get 4 veneers on my upper front teeth. I have had a lot of work done on my front teeth, bonding and fillings. My front teeth are now discoloured and I am very unhappy with them. A few years ago, one of my front teeth had a hole right through it that I needed to get refilled. Will this cause a problem if I was to get a veneer on that tooth? I know that my teeth need to be prepped, but a shaved down tooth with a hole in it, will that be dangerous to put a veneer on? I imagine bacteria would get trapped, or the veneer wouldn’t be very secure. What could I have done about this? Can you fit veneers over fillings? Thank you.

any decay or poor quality fillings would be replaced so the veneers or crowns are on a healthy base.
