I was mentioned that my 12 year old son has many baby teeth, should I be worried now?

Q. My son’s dental staff made remarks to him that he still has “many” baby teeth for being 12. They also mentioned it to me, but didn’t provide clarification–just alarmed us both. So, when do I worry or do I? And if you have any insight about why a grownup professional would do this to a 12 year old kid, I’d like that, too. Thanks for your great site.

A. It might just mean he’s taking a bit longer to lose the teeth, i wouldn’t worry at this age unless he is desperate to start orthodontic treatment.
