Hi I am seeing my Dentist and had an appointment with an NHS consultant

Q. Hi I am seeing my Dentist and had an appointment with an NHS consultant in regards to straightening my front teeth which is protuding. They recommneded becuase I was 36 years old my gums might not be strong to hold my braces. I have gum problems which has not helped. But my gum is stronger. Please can you advise me what I need to do.

A. If any gum problems are present during brace treatments they will be made many times worse by the braces. This can cause permanant damge or even tooth loss.
You must stabilise your gum problems and be prepared to keep perfect oral hygeine during the treatment ( ask your consultant but 1-2 years is not unusual )
